Wrinkle Issues Empty Wrinkle Issues

Post  ocnside 11/29/2011, 2:20 pm

Hi, I have a 4 month old puggy/Julian and his wrinkles in his face seem to be always wet, so I dry/dab them with tissues and now they are pink...I do not want them to need meds, is there something else I should be doing?Wrinkle Issues 3204060110

Tissue may be too rough for his sensitive wrinkles. Think of wrinkles as similar to our under eye area and use only the softest of materials. Damp wrinkles aren't the best as they harbor infection and make for a good place for yeast to grow.

Best thing to clean the fold out with (since Malaseb no longer available) is the Mal-A-Ket wipes. You can find them online at a number of sites. Little round wipes (think doggy Stridex) you use that don't over-dry but clean, soothe and have anti-fungal meds to keep yeast away. I wouldn't use more than a couple times a week (unless you're battling an active yeast infection).

The jar of 50 wipes goes for around $12 at Amazon, Entirely Pets, etc.

Julian's wrinkles...earlier post...have gotten redder...I called the vet and she said use 1 wipe a day of Phyto Vet CK Wipes

Has anyone heard of these? I looked up and ordered the one's on amazon.com that were recommended by lisamak but they are not here yet

Are they the same? if they are wey pads/wipes, do I dry the wrinkles with gauze?

I usually dry their wrinkles with plain kleenex, just make sure there's no moisture left in there.

The Phyto wipes are similar to the Mal-A-Ket (both use ketoconazole as the anti-fungal) but the Phyto also have chlorhexidrine, which is very astringent and will further irritate a dried out/sore area...I wouldn't use them on tissue already inflamed. Wait for the Mal-A-Ket (I got mine shipped from CA via Amazon and got in Boston 2 days later).

After you use a medicated wipe DO NOT wipe with anything else (including kleenex). The wipes have anti-fungal meds and will soothe the fold, go rubbing it again with a dry kleenex and you're just goint to make it worse. Just do 1 wipe a day and then when things get back to normal 1x or 2x a week to maintain.

That is a good point, and I'm sorry for my premature advice. I clean my guys' wrinkles with a baby wipe, nothing medicated, so I wipe with a kleenex to dry the wrinkle after that.

Melissa, I for one am very happy that you are asking questions. To me, being pugged includes being pugged responsibly, and you are being a very responsible pugmom. And there is such a wealth of knowledge here!
