Very Bad Ear Infection! Empty Very Bad Ear Infection!

Doug the Pug has had an ear infection for over a month! Because of the severity of the infection his eardrum was perforated and he has Horner's Syndrome which caused facial paralysis on his left side. He has been on oral antibiotics (just finished them) and prednisone. He also needs artificial tears because he can't blink his left eye. He's much better then he was when this all started but I'm concerned that he isn't his old peppy self. Has anyone had something similar to this happen and how long did it take your pug to recover?

A few years back, Penny got VRE in her ears - never did figure out how she got it, but that is what the culture showed. She was on major antibiotics (oral and eardrops) for a couple of months. We didn't have any other problems with it, other than her hearing was definitely affected. It took three months (!) for the whole thing to be over, and when the infection cleared up, her hearing did improve. Hugs and good thoughts to you and to Doug the Pug.

Thanks for the info and good thoughts! Doug's going back to the vet next week after he finishes the steroids and hopefully they'll give him a clean bill of health. The paralysis is better then it was at the beginning but they said it could take 4-6 months to fully regain all normal movement. He's never been sick before and this whole ordeal has really thrown me for a loop!

I can only imagine how scary this has been for you. Hoping for a quick and full recovery for Doug the Pug.
