Weird Sophie question Empty Weird Sophie question

Is there any other kind? I just talked to her vet and she didn't really know either..but I'm assuming this is a result of her bout with myositis. So ever since that, she has weird issues with her tongue. She licks more, her tongue sometimes hangs a bit out (never did before) and when she uses her tongue, it is from that side of her mouth only. We were thinking maybe nerve damage?

Entirely possible that it is some degree of nerve damage, or it could be a transient thing. Everything crossed that it is transient.Weird Sophie question 1287372947 Weird Sophie question 1287372947 Weird Sophie question 1287372947

Unfortunately, I don't know enough about canine neuroanatomy to help much with this one. But since she was dealing with an inflammatory condition, I could completely see adjacent nerves being affected somewhat. If that's the case, I would expect that it would likely be a temporary effect.

Did she lose teeth from the dental? Bubba lost a canine and his tongue now does that because the canine doesn't hold it back anymore.

Daisy has a fairly large tongue which every so often sticks out the side of her mouth when she is sleeping - always on the same side. She became extremely ill a few years ago and for several months afterward, her tongue was much more prone to hanging out the side of her mouth. Not like it was paralyzed or anything, but as if the muscles were just a bit tired and couldn't keep it in. After a while it went back to normal.

I think that as she ages, and especially if she loses any teeth on that side that she won't be able to hold her licker anymore, but for today, it is just cute to see it sticking out while she is sleeping.
