I was wondering how soon after trying a new food one would expect an allergic reaction? After how long without any reaction could one assume the pug is not allergic to the new food?

Toddy and Snifter have been restricted to fish products due to Snifter's hot spots. I've been trying some turkey and so far (about a week) no excessive scratching or other signs (touch wood). Just wondering how long I should wait for no allergy symptoms before concluding they are OK with turkey.

Bella:
I usually don't make any assumption until they've been on it for a month. Some of my dogs react quickly and some take longer. And I have to be really careful with kibble because there are so many ingredients that I can't always tell if the allergen is the protein or the other stuff in it.

I'd say a minimum of 3 weeks but as Blanche said, every dog seems to be different. Tina seemed to be okay with certain proteins the first time around but I guess I didn't wait long enough. Now she eats only turkey. I may try something else again later but we've just come through another itchy patch - I suspect she got into something when I was away in November.

I guess all dogs are different, but Tilly reacts within about 20 minutes.

Julian reacted hours later from his shots but in about 20-30 minutes from food/bone now I am scared to death....literally to give him anything but lamb n rice or maybe oatmeal, I feel bad like he is a puppy n I am not letting him experience different tastes but on the other hand I would blame myself if I caused him something bad.

It's unusual for a puppy to show food allergies or sensitivities. The most common time for that stuff to show up is at age 2 when their body has become sensitized.

I have maybe missed a post on this, but what reaction did you see?
