I received a full-size bag of Lotus kibble (www.lotuspetfoods.com) for Marlee to try, in the duck variety. The duck variety is grain-free, as is her regular food (I've been giving her Taste of the Wild for a couple years).

We're about halfway through the bag, and she loves it (although she'd eat dirt if it was in her bowl, so that's really not a reliable indicator of tastiness). No upset tummy (we rotate through the various flavors/varieties of her current food regularly, so I think she's pretty used to change), no gas, good poop. (I still add canned ToTW to each meal.)

I like the idea of having another brand to incorporate, but was wondering if anyone here had any experience with the Lotus foods, pro or con? It's baked and not extruded, which I like. Would love feedback!

Here is the analysis by dogfoodadvisor. http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-reviews/lotus-dog-food-dry/

I usually visit his site for analysis to get an idea of where a food is.

Lotus is rated four stars, which I believe to be a good rating. Five is the highest. Check out his notes on a few "controversial" ingredients.

I like Lotus and have clients that feed it with good results. They do a raw and a great canned as well.

We haven't tried it yet but they do sell it at the natural pet food store where I shop. I believe that they were one of the first stores to carry it around here.

Thanks, everyone! Renee, I hadn't visited that site in a while, so it was nice to go back and look up a few of the brands I like. (Taste of the Wild got 5 out of 5 stars, for both their dry and canned varieties, which is good to see.)

I liked the Lotus food enough to use the "Where to Buy" on their website. Its lack of availability basically makes the decision for me -- there is only ONE store in my entire city that carries it, and it's clear across town. I definitely didn't like it enough to go that far out of my way for it, when I'm happy with what I can get close by. So that's that, until/unless their distribution gets wider.

It is a great food - I keep a couple bags of the duck around at all times for fosters. They are fairly new to the game so as you found, distribution isn't great. Also its very pricey (higher than Orijen here in the Northeast) so I usually give out samples at work but also recommend Taste of the Wild for accessibility/affordability.

Buying it online might be the best bet for pricing unless you find a friend that works in a shop where they sell it - they have an employee program so most folks working in a shop that carry it are eligible for a free bag 1x a month or so.

As a company they have also been really generous to rescue (gave our pug rescue a ton of food last year and came to a couple of events) so I'd definitely recommend if you can find it / afford it.
