Emma had me up all night last night
We took the girls to the vet last weekend for their yearly checkup and come to find out, not only does Gracie have a skin infection but Emma does too. I've been dealing with Gracie and her allergies for a year now. Emma never showed any signs of it but while at the vet, she checked Emma's skin and she had some sores too. The pollen is off the charts here right now so she believes it's from that. Anyway, Emma seemed to have been doing fine. She started the antihistamine a week ago this past Saturday and she's been fine. Out of the blue last night, she started itching, I mean, like CRAZY!! I didn't do anything different, I wipe their whole bodies down, including their feet, when they come inside. I don't know why she started this last night. Her poor tummy is all pink, she was so restless last night, she wouldn't sleep at all. This is the pug that usually doesn't even make it all the way under the covers at night before she plops down. She kept walking all over the bed. When she finally would get settled (for about 5 minutes), she would jump up, almost as if something scared her. I have been racking my brain and I have no idea why this is happening. I have a call in to the vet so hopefully she calls me back soon. I gave her an extra dose of antihistamine, gave her a bath at 1:00 in the morning, I tried everything and nothing would work. What am I doing wrong? I feel so bad for her.

Sometimes that restlessness can be from pain as well. When one of my dogs can't settle at night, I give them a rimadyl to help them sleep (this is usually only Ichiro). It could be that she was so uncomfortable from the itching that she was hurting.

Did they get vaccination boosters when you took them in? The reaction is usualy quicker, but it could be that.
Hugs to her!

Hope you can get to the bottom of it and get poor Emma (and you!) some relief!

The vet called me while I was at lunch and she is putting an RX together for her so I'll be picking that up for her shortly. When I was home at lunch though, she wasn't itching nearly as bad and her tummy wasn't as pink. I started her on probiotics Saturday night...the itching started Monday morning. I skipped the probiotics this morning.....could she really be having a reaction to the probiotics do you think? It's an all natural one I bought from this natural pet supply place online.

Awww, your sweet Melissa, thank you. Emma is much better. The vet put her on a steroid and she's been fine. I honestly think it was the probiotic so I'm not going to give her any of that and see if it comes back. This is very out of the norm for Emma. Gracie is my "problem child" with all the issues. Emma hasn't given us any problems since she was a puppy so this was a surprise to me.
