Reggie "Spooking" Easily?
Just curious if you guys have any thoughts on this. Very recently, like within the last week or two, Reggie has been spooking or getting scared really easily. It's not like something falls and he gets skittish at all, but like if someone moves quickly he jumps back with a very startled, terrified look on his face. Examples are he sniffed my computer and I think it shocked him (like when we shock people from carpets), someone tore a paper towel that he was sniffing near, I moved my toe near him, I pushed my laundry basket into my room and he was a few feet away.... I know those are weird situations, but everytime he has jerked his head back and refuses to go near whatever spooked him. He'll be 8 in a few weeks. They only thing I can think of is if his depth perception is going as he ages (which is normal for people and humans...I know he has the normal changes to his lens...like when people age and need reading glasses). Maybe they're getting a little worse?
He has never, ever been a spooky dog. Even now, things falling, cars, anything doesn't make him skittish or scare him. It's just little abrupt quick movements seem to be catching him. I mean, my toe wiggled and he about jumped out of his skin onto his two back legs!

I have no idea but it sounds so sad! I hope all is well with the little dude and that someone has something constructive to say. I was thinking maybe it was his vision as well...

My first thoughts would be deterioration of sight and/or hearing. I hate seeing them get older.

Agreed, can't they stay with us forever and never have age related issues? I'm not worrying yet. Cognitively he's still sharp as a tack and had his last ophthalmologist visit in December/January. I really do think if anything it's his eyes/ears. I'll watch carefully if it seems to be worsening. Thanks guys!
