Mickey is ......
HEARTWORM FREE!!!
He went for his post treatment checkup and HW test today and came back NEG. From where we started 1 year ago, truly music to my ears. It made me feel that despite all the confinement and painful treatment we put him through plus the $$ spent was all so worth it. He's still somewhat deaf/blind but the vet said his heart - lungs sound 100% better than they did when I first hauled him out of the shelter and took him in to get a checkup.
Dr Mark was elated and told Micks he could go on living a loving life , icky bug free. Micks gave him a big slurp of approval.
To bad the same cannot be said for the devil girl herself who had to go as well... but that's a whole 'nother issue..

Yay for Mickey! So happy to hear the good news about him. Does your other pug have heartworm problems?

Woohoo! He finally got there. It's a long hard haul for something that can be prevented so easily.
Waiting for the other thread on your gal.

Re: Mickey is ......
I'm still so thrilled. Starting this journey with no personal hw experience and taking that whole long , painful haul with him was the worst thing I've had to do with any of my kids yet. I'm so obsessive and always have been about them getting their preventatives that it's pitiful but I wouldn't for the life of me wish the treatment on any animal and have told Micks story soooo many times to potential adopters that had no clue. I just have to hope they listened.
Linda: The current issue child isn't a Pug. It's our newest addition , Honey (Devil) the Pom. She is another abused case from the shelter that I acquired (um , brought home as a foster -- Hubs got twisted around her furry little paw/sunk like a rock and she's here forever ). Thankfully by some grace she is HW neg but came to me in pretty bad shape. She's doing better now but still has some problems we will be addressing. I've been out for the evening caring for my ill step-father but I'll be making a thread shortly on her.

You needed a girl around, Sarah!!
I'm glad Mickey is HW negative. He'll need to keep his strength up dealing with the Pom.
Re: Mickey is ......
Oh, Sarah, that is excellent news! Now he can effectively deal with Honey the Devil Pom. Hurray for Mickey , and hurray for you !!
