We need to send letters to the editor of Woman's Day magazine
I was reading Woman's Day magazine (don't ask, I get it free) and one of the questions was:
Is High End Pet Food Worth It? The response was from Tony Buffington, DVM Ohio State Nutrition Professor was "Not from a nutrition point of view." "Pet food that costs up to 10 times more doesn't lead to better overall health".
Idiot! I'm trying to figure out which crappy pet food company has him on the payroll.
I'd love to see lots of emails to the editor on this one:
womansday@hearst.com

What a moron! E-mail going out tonight! Ohio State is where Penny and I went for her eyes - that department seemed to have its poop together, as it were.
By the way, are you coming up for the balloon races again?

I'm planning on it! Debating about bringing the Phoebers with me.

Not defending the man, nor attacking him either but is it possible that his replies were taken out of context and that editing made him look like he was defending nutritionally poor food?
For instance what defines "High End Pet Food"? Is it price? If so, then I cannot disagree with his statement that from a nutritional point of view, price is not actually a scientific factor in determining how nutritionally valuable a food is.
I could make a really crummy dog food, with a lot of indigestible vegetable matter and some dubiously sourced meat meals etc., put a very high purchase price on it and it simply would not be as good as some generic home brand dog food that had a reasonably good recipe but a cheap price. That would mean that his statement was intrinsically correct however not necessarily that he was suggesting that those low-scoring highly commercial foods that are big advertisers in the magazine are better than higher scoring commercial foods.
We know that good dog food costs more to produce than poor dog food, however there are some good dog foods out there that do NOT need to price their wares to cover a huge advertising budget which in some cases might make a poor food actually more expensive than a better food.
I haven't read the entire article and I do not know the man so I have no idea if he has been falsely represented in this - quite possibly he IS in the pay of some evil crap-kibble pusher.
Just Devil's Advocating here but I should think that it is the magazine editors and/or journalist whose byline is on the article you should be targeting and not the poor scientist (unless, of course, you have other evidence to indicate that he is a henchman of Purina et al).
just my dime's worth...

Well, that is like saying eating at McDonald's is just as nutritional as eating a home cooked meal with veggies and lean meat
