My Coper... Empty My Coper...

Post  Guest 10/20/2012, 9:51 am

Seems like my vet and I have become best friends over the last few weeks...for all the dogs...but with Coper especially...

He had been having a limp...so I took him in...As the limp came and went...we started to treat him for lyme disease...he had been bitten by ticks and treated while we were living in NH...so we decided to treat him without the testing...while giving him an anti-inflammatory at the same time...

After the treatment he still had a limp and was nursing one leg...so back to the vet...we took x-rays...ugh...there was something there...the vet and her colleagues thought they saw something that looked like a tumor...UGH...not something I wanted to deal with after losing Pozie in June...She sent the x-rays off to NC State and they did find something...benign something...it is on his radius...I am going to pick up a copy of the reports...he also has DJD in both elbows...so...she said it doesn't look like the spot on the radius is what is causing the limping...

So...my guy is getting old...he now gets to be on an anti-inflammatory...glucosamine and fish oil...and carried around as the Prince he is should be...she said he needs as much rest on his joints until he gets the other stuff in his system...

Any other suggestions for joint remedies?? I know a few of you have seniors...with joint issues...so I thought I would see what everyone uses...

Thanks!

We put Gus on Lubrysin. It has done wonders for him. Highly recommend it! He's also on Vetprofin and glucosamime supplements.

Good thoughts for your boy. Maybe get a supplement that combines glucosamine with chondroitin.

I picked up fish oil and glucosamine and chondroitin yesterday...I hope to see positive results soon...I don't want to keep him on the anti-inflammatory forever...It can't be good for him...we will take it day by day...He loves being carried everywhere...Seneca always tells him how cute he his until she has to carry him down the stairs...and then she says... I love you Coper but you are so heavy...

I wish he was overweight so if I took some of his weight off it would help...but he is at perfect weight...he has a broad chest and a very narrow waist...so we do what the doc says and tote him around...and rest his bones and joints...I wish someone would do that for me... :)

I use the ENP Glucosamine Plus (its a high-dose one, I also like the K-9 Liquid Health products).. For fish oils I use a straight-up salmon oil. There are natural anti-inflammatories available, most common will be a blend of yucca and alfalfa - safe for the rest of his life (provided there's no contra-indications with meds he's on). If you don't have an earthy-crunchy type supply store near you I like Only Natural Pet for alt med supplies.http://www.onlynaturalpet.com/.

Hope you see some improvement soon.

How old is Cooper? Viv is 8 now and has been showing some signs of aging, she is on a salmon oil and
a glucosamine.
I hope the different things people have recommended help. I'm sure not dealing with the cold winters anymore will be good for him also.

Coper is 8 and since using the glucosamine and the fish oil, I see a difference...I am not using the anti-inflammatory but once a day and that is in the evening before bed...he has not been limping and his tail is even curled again...And I even caught him playing tug of war with the puppy yesterday... :)
