so nervous about spaying
hello all! i have been putting on the spaying of my baby for so long, because anesthesia scares me. i have heard bad stories and couldn't handle if something were to happen (just like the rest of you) i have finally decided it is necessary to spay her.... any one have any tips, pointers, or suggestions?
i am willing to pay endless amounts to make sure everything goes smooth. if someone knows of an AMAZING vet who goes the extra mile, let me know... i am willing to travel if the reviews prove worth it! i live in Buffalo, Ny.
thank you

First of all, doing the surgery while she is young and healthy is the best thing for her. I have seen pugs have to have an "Emergency spay" because of pyometra and THAT is scary! Make sure your vet is familiar with the dogs with the pushed in noses (they usually need to keep the tube in longer after anesthesia to make sure they can breathe on their own) and that they use the most up to date anesthetic agents. I would also do a complete blood panel before surgery to make sure everything is OK. Then come here for pug prayers and good thoughts the day of the surgery...I totally believe in that!!

What Roxane said. I know how scary it is when our furkids are under anesthesia. The risks of anesthesia, however, are much much less than the risks of not spaying her. I'd check with pug/Boston/bulldog/other smooshy face rescues in your area for a vet recommend.

I work for a nonprofit animal welfare organization with a high volume spay/neuter clinic. They perform more than 55 surgeries on an average day, more during heavy times of year. It is SO rare for them to have complications. A young healthy animal should sail through s/n surgery with flying colors.

You've been given great advice so as long as you take the precautions suggested, you will minimise the very, very small risk even further. Good luck!

These procedures are usually harder on us than our Pugs.

Getting ready to have my baby Rosie spayed as well as she reaches her 5-6 month window...want to do it before the first heat...
I know you do not know me as I have been absent from PA for a hot minute, however, no one was more scared than me with my Jules....I mean for everything!!!
Sometimes specific animals change us forever...that's all I have to say about that!

Good luck to Rosie! I know how relieved you'll be when it's all over and she's back home!
And good luck to AllyandBennysmom, too, with your girl's operation. Believe me, we all understand how you feel.
