Mole? Empty Mole?

Post  Nan and BAGS 12/9/2012, 11:38 pm

I just noticed that Aine has a few brown moles on her upper chest.
She might have had them prior but i guess i never noticed them. They do not seem large or iregular. Do pug moles act the same way as human moles? She see Dr Nadine in Feb so you think I can wait until than as long as i keep an eye on it?

Also another weird thing. I was checking through Aine's fur and it looked like she had a pimple! I thought they only got them on their chin. Weird.

Thanks all!

Honestly, I'd take her in to see the vet. Mast cell tumors are pretty common in pugs, and are famous for looking like just about anything. The prognosis is excellent if caught soon, but not so good if allowed to progress to higher stages.

I'm personally more of a wait-and-see person myself, if the dog has no history of mast cells and is acting and feeling normal. But that's just me. I used to rush Rhoda to the vet for absolutely everything, and she was almost always just fine. I would wait for February myself, but I'd hate to be the one who gave bad advice, so do what you think is best.

If it was just one, I would say wait and watch it but because there are multiples, I would have them checked out. I have seen mast cell tumors go from 3 to 64 in a matter of weeks. Not saying that is what it is as it is impossible to tell by looking at them (they need to aspirate them). Every growth that was a mast cell I have had a VET tell me it wasn't before aspiration.

I noticed a mole on my Phoebe earlier this summer on her rear end. She has no history of any tumors, etc. She went in today for a dental and doc said it was not a mole but a wart. Since it was on her rear end and that area bleeds more, she burned the wart off instead of cutting it out. Now as for pimples elsewhere other than on the muzzle. I've seen my Moet have it on her ear flap once and it just went away.

Back to the mole. If it's pale and not red, I would wait until her next visit. If it's dark pink or red, it might warrant bringing her in. Keep an eye on it for any changes.
