My 6 yr old Pug has a dark spot in his eye
I just noticed this afternoon that my Male 6 yr old Pug has a dark spot along side the left side of his eye about the size of a pinto bean. Is this the start of eye sight loss? Should I worry and contact the vet. I hate to over react.
I am looking for advice from any Pug owners that may have Pugs with sight problems.

It is probably pigmentary keratitis. Common in pugs especially at the corners of the eyes. The real worry is if it starts to creep over the cornea. Given that I can't see it, I can't say for sure. It is worth mentioning to your vet. Your pug may have some medial entropion or disticia or may have lower than normal tear production--all things that can cause PK.
The real signs that you look for in terms of serious eye issues are yellow or green coloured discharge, squinting or obvious pain. I would recommend a Tear test to see where his tear production is.

Yep, totally agree with what Blanche said. I would schedule an appointment with a veterinary ophthalmologist.

Ditto for scheduling an appt with your vet-it doesn't sound like an emergency, but I would get an appt soon. If anything, they can photograph the eye to see how and if it progresses. One of our pugs is on 2xday eye drops for PK. Depending on what is going on with the eye they may or may not refer you to a specialist. Even though PK is common, you want to stay on top of it.

Amen to all that has been said. Many of our pugs have PK, and it can be arrested with prescription eyedrops. Please do get it checked, and keep us posted. I would add a recommendation that you consult a veterinary opthalmologist. Penny was diagnosed and given drops by a GP dogtor, and I was told that her tear test was good, so not to worry. When we consulted with a vet opthalmologist (we first saw one at OSU vet school clinic, and now see one who is in Reno), I learned that a tear test is important, but the content of the tears (don't exactly remember what, but it can't be determined by a simple tear test) is very important. They put Ms. Thang on Tacrolimus, and she did very well.

Thank you
I will get Oscar to the Vet. It is in the inside corner of his eye. Thank you for your suggestions.
