Glaucoma
My daughter's rescue German Wirehaired Pointer will be having an eye removed tomorrow. She took her to her local vet for a swollen eye, suspected glaucoma. The only vet she knew who could check glaucoma levels was in Naperville, Il. When Carol called, I told her about a great vet in Moline who made my hermorpodite Pug, Lulu, into an IT and also was able to read her glaucoma levels after treatment at the University of Illinois. Carol and Sadie made the trek this aft. and the eye had gotten immense. Levels were 47 in the one eye. The vet is going to monitor the other eye for a couple of days also. It was normal today. Sadie is an old dog (Carol makes a practice of adopting elderly dogs), probably 10 or 11, and a sweetheart who leans into your legs, looking adoringly at you & trying to give doggy kisses. Please keep her in your thoughts tomorrow. The vet is coming in on his day off to do the surgery, bless his heart!

Well laid plans oft go astray! The vet said it would be $700 for the eye removal. Carol waffled back and forth as several vets have said glaucoma could be genetic and her other eye might be affected. She also found a growth on her side. Finally the vet called her back this aft. (surprise, surprise) and offered to do the surgery for what she has already paid for her visit yest., about $200. I can't believe his kindness....I know I really liked him for what he did for Lulu each time. She's on pain reduction meds and the eye WILL come out Sat. Carol is a widow with several dogs (Miniature Schnauzers) and money is a problem so his offer was gratefully accepted. Now I can worry about Sadie tomorrow until I hear from Carol. Please keep sweet Sadie in your thoughts and prayers. She's an extra special dog and has adored Carol from the first time they saw each other at the Humane Society. I'm getting teary thinking of their first encounter and how much they love each other. Next will be a biopsy of that dratted growth.
