White poop? Empty White poop?

Post  Dayna 5/5/2011, 7:03 am

Hubs took Bear for a walk last night and noticed when he pooped it was super pale/white. He hasn't gone again since so I can check. Should I be freaked out? I read online and it said liver function issues,.raw diet and bones could cause this. BB doesn't eat raw and has not gotten bones in ages.

White poop? Empty Re: White poop?

Don't freak out unless it continues white for a few days. Mine often have white poop, but it's from the raw diet - I make adjustments if it is really really chalk white and brittle as the bone matter is a little too high ( happens occasionally but not often).
The fact that he has pooped white once even though you haven't changed his diet any shouldn't be cause for alarm of itself - but if his does continue then you do need to check his liver/gut metabolism and find out why the pigmentation is being retained in his body, especially if you are feeding a food that has artificial colours.
The other thing that may have caused it is if he has eaten a lot of something that had no pigmentation he could poop from that one 'meal' - might be something he found for himself, they scavenge so hard, don't they?
So my advice is wait and see.

Thank you for the reply. I'm a tad nervous when it comes to Bear because he is getting older. He does like eating anything he can find outside.
