Mochi ate a chicken bone! HElp
Woody called the vet & they said give white bread w/ olive oil. What should I look for & how long will it take if something is wrong. Any experience in this? I am stressed. Mad at hubby. I was at work. : (

Re: Mochi ate a chicken bone! HElp
My dogs have gotten into cooked chicken bones twice back home. My parents throw them out, the raccoons take them out of the trash and spread them around the yard, and then the dogs get let out...makes me so angry, but that's a different tangent...
Unfortunately one of the things with cooked chicken bones is they can splinter and pierce the bowel. Like Saira said on fb, you'll be able to tell if she's not feeling well...vomiting, diarrhea (especially bloody), not eating, laying around, painful, etc. If you're really concerned, the vet can do x rays to see where the bone is (whether you want to know now and then again in a couple of days or in a couple of days is up to you). I will let you know that both of my pugs have been absolutely okay both times. We were lucky we had no issues, and I'll send some good thoughts for the same for Mochi.

Re: Mochi ate a chicken bone! HElp
A few weeks ago, my little Danger Dog (Kimchi) picked up a chicken bone on a walk and promptly ate it. My first thought was to try hydrogen peroxide, but then I remember that would be dangerous coming back up because they can splinter. I read about the white bread trick a few years ago when someone's dog ate a glass Christmas ornament. I fed her bread softened with a bit of water and that seemed to do the trick. I never saw it come out, but she has been fine. Stomach acids should help break down the bone, but if she starts shaking or not eating, get her to the vet for an ultrasound. (I know Crossroads has on-site ultrasound - most vets do not and will x-ray first.)
I'll keep Mochi in my thoughts (and you too). Call me if you need to talk it out, or if things change.

So far so good. I made sure they ( I say they, because my wonderful hubby was not 100% sure who ate the bone! Most likely Mochi as she is the plate stealer) slept near me on the bed, so I would hear anything. About 5:30am she got restless, burped & licked her lips a lot. We got up & she had to go potty bad. I thought she was going to throw up, but she just wet burped & then did a reverse sneeze. Watched her poop, it was big (all that bread!!) & a bit mushy at the end, unusual for her. I took it in & picked at it for bones, blood, whatever. It seemed fine. SO that's good she pooped. SHe seems fine. No distress. I am taking them to work today, so I can watch them. Should be interesting. lol Would you think by tomorrow (Sat) morning she should be fine if nothing happens? Thanks all. just a stressful situation, ya know?

Just seeing this...
My Ichiro has had more than his share of chicken bones. He's a stinker! All three of my pugs ate an entire chicken carcass once, from one of those cheater chickens from the store. They have never had anything bad happen, thank goodness.
I think if you make it through 2 days, you should be fine.

I agree that the odds are excellent Mochi will be fine. A friend of my brother-in-law's gave Rhoda a bunch of baby back sparerib bones at a barbecue once (after being told specifically not to, GRRRRR). She apparently ate 4 or 5 of them, and was perfectly fine.

Re: Mochi ate a chicken bone! HElp
Thanks. SO far so good. I think what makes me more nervous is we are suppose to drive to Mexico around 3 this afternoon. If something happens while we're there, it takes 2 hours to cross the boarder & find a vet. Anyways, I took them to work for the day & I saw what looked like blood in her stool, so I took her to the vet yesterday. She is acting completely normal. They took xrays & yep, there were bones in her stomach. They had not passed yet. Vet says the danger is in the passing. She gave me high fiber food to help move things along & said in 24 to 36 hrs it should pass & you should know if anythings wrong. Most likely, she will be fine. SO we are delaying leaving for our trip until sunday morning. That way, if something does go wrong, we should know it before we leave. I am just being cautious, especially due to the fact we will be in Mexico. I will be taking them to work with me again today. The clients seem to enjoy it. Say some more prayers!!! Will keep you updated.
