You Were Not Kidding Anout the HK Poop
Increase, that is. I always try and get more variety in all of my cats and dogs diets. I like to change the protein source every week or so, change the brand of raw the pugs (and canned for the cats) I feed often to keep them getting complete nutrition.
I found a new pet food seller that is a) CHEAP and b) has GREAT varieties of food. They are cheaper than the food I get at other retailers at my discount (15%). I decided to buy another box of HK to feed in the evening while feeding raw frozen in the AM. Just one meal of HK has made Thurston into a pooping machine! Kimchi hasn't been as effected, but T - man oh man! The thing with T is that he doesn't always wait, so I keep finding poop bombs. We're on #4 today and we haven't even taken our late night walk!
That's a lot of poop!
So, I have a couple of questions for you HK feeders.
I change food so much, I should be better at making these calculations, but I usually just switch between raw and only have to figure out how much each frozen patty weighs. HK is a whole different beast!

- Which formula do you use?
- How much do you feed each meal (what amount of dry do you start with)?
- How much does your dog weigh?

Which formula do you use?
How much do you feed each meal (what amount of dry do you start with)?
How much does your dog weigh?
Per Meal:
LuLu: Keen, 1/3c dry mixed with slightly more than 2/3c water (pumpkin & missing link), 16lbs
Mac: Keen, 1/3c dry mixed with slightly more than 2/3c water (pumpkin & missing link), 15lbs
Tyson: Preference, 1/3c dry mixed with 2/3c water, 1/4 can of Wellness 95% salmon (pumpkin), 19lbs
When I first switched to HK, I just had LuLu & Tyson. On our walks I felt like I was carrying the poop bag of 2 great danes, not 2 pugs! Currently LuLu poops at least three times a day, Mac at least twice and Tyson usually at least twice.

This is pretty close to what I feed, 1/3 c. dry, only we feed Zeal and Embark.
Yes, the poop is crazy at first! Now mine are back to normal, whew!
Re: You Were Not Kidding Anout the HK Poop
We switch between Keen and Embark.
Skeeter: 1/3 cup dry
Tobey: Just under 1/3 cup dry
Ichiro: Just over 1/3 dry
I don't always add something, but often I will add eggs, pumpkin, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, or raw meat. I add fish at a minimum of once a week.
I never had the poop increase that many people talk about. Or, maybe I just didn't notice it? All of my pugs poop about twice a day, which seems normal to me.

Re: You Were Not Kidding Anout the HK Poop
My guys are both 18 pounds and I feed between 1/3 cup dry and 1/2 cup dry, twice a day, mixed with 1.5 times that amount of water. I vary the amount depending on if they're looking a little scrawny or a little fluffy. I usually rotate between Force and Keen, although I've also tried Embark and Zeal. Zeal let to some NASTY gas, plus it's a lot more expensive, plus I hated the smell of it, so I won't be getting that one again.
I only noticed a slight increase in poops when we first switched.

Re: You Were Not Kidding Anout the HK Poop
Well, Thurston is definitely more of a poopy boy these days! I went to go get Chris from the airport and have some dinner and was gone maybe 4 hours I fed and walked them before I left but only Kimchi pooped. We came home to a ginormous poop, walked them again and, when he came home he started spinning in the living room. Took him outside and he pooped again!
The good (?) thing is, he's not interested in eating this poop.
Even 1/2 cup dry is WAY more food in their bowls than the normal amount of raw that I feed them - at least volume-wise. It's all a work in progress, I suppose.

I feed HK every once in a while, usually force. My pugs are pretty small, but I only give them slightly less than 1/4 C dry. Sometimes I pre-mix a few meals worth and keep in the fridge, and just give them their normal amounts. I've never noticed any change.
Re: You Were Not Kidding Anout the HK Poop
The pooping continues and even Kimchi has pooped 4x today. Chris just got home from Chicago and is amazed by the sheer amount of poop happening! Thurston now has a new nickname (appropriate for living in the LBC). He's Poop Doggy Dog.
