Pyoderma anyone?

The foster I have coming in next week has Pyroderma, I did a bit of research to see what I will be dealing with.
Anyone here with experience on this?

Have they done a spay on her yet? I've only had experience with a cat and by the time she was pulled from animal control,all we could do was euthanise her. the vet said the infection had spread through out her body:(

Are you thinking of pyometra, Trish? Uterine infection?

Pyoderma is a skin infection.

Donna--here's a pretty decent link on it. I've not dealt with a severe case of it.

They normally spay all of them prior to fostering but I will double check. I did read that it was uncommon in cats, poor thing.
I have never had one with a skin disorder, didn't know if I could hold her or let her snuggle with my guys, or do I need to keep her separate.

Donna--here's a pretty decent link on it. I've not dealt with a severe case of it.

YES!!! All I read was pyo and went to check why the dogs were so quiet. Just ignore my advice Donna and read what Blanche has posted Have i mentioned I should also be using reading glasses on top of me wearing contacts?

Most likely it isn't contagious, Donna, but that will depend on what is causing it. Are they sure it's pyoderma and not something else? I'll post some info on pyoderma in a separate post.

I don't know for sure, it's just what I was told. Hopefully when the paperwork is released it will have more info.
I might just bring her to my vet when I get her for a second opinion.

I don't have any experience with it, but just wanted to chime and say how much that picture breaks my heart. All the puppy mill dogs look so broken. I'm so glad they will go to good homes!!

I know I thought the same thing.
Karen who pulled them said the whole lot of them are a mess.
Hopefully we can get them back on their feet and in homes they deserve.

I've had all kinds of experience with pyoderma - it is very common in dogs, especially pugs, and in my experience is mostly associated with yeast/allergy problems. It can be dealt with. Pyometra, on the other hand is extremely emergent and life-threatening. We had one rescue rushed straight from the previous owner into waiting surgery in horrendous driving conditions; we didn't think she would even make the drive but the transporter was willing to take the chance in that horrible weather. The pug did survive the trip, the surgery went well and she came through with flying colours and went on to be adopted. But it gave Blanche and me and a few others some more grey hairs that day.

What is pyoderma? sounds nasty.

Moist pyoderma is another term for hotspots.

We struggled with those for the longest time with Snifter but a change of diet sorted him in the end.

Treatment was oral antibiotics plus a topical gel.

Not sure if there are different kinds of pyoderma.

It's a very nasty bacterial infection in the uterus in intact females which can progress to the point that the cervix closes and the infection is unable to drain. It can be deadly very quickly.
