Vomitting & Excessive Thirst ? Empty Vomitting & Excessive Thirst ?

Post  Erin 5/10/2011, 9:05 pm

Stu came home to mass amounts of vomit today, poor Knuckles must have been puking non stop.
He ate his breakie this morning but wasn't wanting his cookie when I crated him, apparently I did not latch the crate so he was free roam and puked in about 4 different areas in the family room. Since coming home he has vomitted 5 times and all water with some bile, he is almost frantic looking for water. We have taken the water away as it comes back up instantly. When Mavis has been sick she wants nothing to do with water, this is new for me. He is following me to the water cooler looking for a drink.
As fas as I know, they did test for Diabetes when they ran the wellness tests, has anyone experienced this before ?

It sounds like he got into something, Erin. He's not on any meds is he? I have found some dogs have a bad reaction to Potassium Bromide or phenobarbital--both can make dogs ravenously hungry and thirsty

He is not on any meds at all.
The only thing that has been different was the smoked beef bones on Sunday.
He is otherwise fine, energy level normal, his gums looks good, eyes are bright.
And here we thought the pugs would be the ones with more health issues, so far Knuckles is on top, the eye graft, emergency dental, seizures... poor fella

I'm so sorry Erin, no clues. I'd have him back at the vets - he may be dangerously dehydrated. Hope all is okay with your boy. hug dog

Erin, smoked beef bones means cooked bones... did he consume them or just gnaw on them? Could he have a blockage from the bones?

If he can't even keep water down, I'd bring him to the emergency vet. It could be an obstruction. Other thoughts are like what the others have said...pancreatitis, toxin ingestion, flu/bug, etc. Poor guy.

He will need rehydration somehow. Off to the vet soonest. If you have any delay, freeze a shallow bowl of water and let him lick at the ice.
Sending get-better vibes to the little penguin.
