Olive sick: throwing up Empty Olive sick: throwing up

Post  LisaW 7/8/2011, 10:03 am

She has been throwing up off & on for 2 days. First, I thought it was just nothing. You know how dogs yak once in awhile. She was a little agitated during the evening & wouldn't settle down. We all went to bed & she normally lays down & sleeps thru the night. She sat up at the edge of the bed all night. I finally put her in her crate, so I could sleep. I don't allow them to jump off the hight bed. at 6am she threw up big time. (not just water). She seems fine after that, so Ittok her for a walk. Was fine. I fed her chicken & water. She ate that up. She wasn't interested in her food. ( NOT normal). Later she ate a lot of grass & threw it up. While I was at work she threw up more grass. (On my freshly cleaned pjs). She seemed fine. I fed her chicken baby food (vet told me once). She ate it up. Was fine. Then we went to bed. As soon as she laid down, she had a very violent reverse sneeze. It lasted a long time. She fell asleep. Later on she sat up at the edge of the bed again. She finally fell back asleep. 5am, she throws up again. I can tell she doesn't feel well. I am off work early today, so I am going to take her to the vet. Vector control (www.ocvcd.org/ ) came out a few weeks ago to put out poison for the rats. (neighbor behind me told me). She brought a dead rat in beg of week. Didn't chew it, just brought it in They say it is harmless to dogs. I don't know. Poor baby. I'm not going to feed her this a.m. Just to let her tummy rest. It hurts my heart, to see her like this. Anyone been through this, & what did you do?

Poor Olive, I'm sorry to hear she's not feeling well.

Has she been peeing and pooping like normal? Could she have a blockage?

Didn't she eat something awhile back? Sometimes it can take awhile to show up as a blockage. I hope she's feeling better soon.

It was Mochi who ate the Chicken Bone (right?). But, it does sound like a blockage or a partial blockage. I would be worried about the rat poison. How can something kill a rat but be safe for dogs? Can you call Vector Control and find out what type of poison they use? It might be good for the vet to know.

I'd be calling Vector Control and taking her in to the dogtor, too. Sending a positive thought and prayer for Olive. Olive sick: throwing up 27965

My worries would be what was the cause of death for the rat...poison or disease. Personally I would take her to the vet to have it checked out.

She's doing fine. Vet said no blockage, no pain. Not dehydrated. Xrays show she's full of gas & that her liver is small. Says probably normal, due to her petite size. Shocked Anyways, did a blood test, will get those back tomorrow am. Gave her a vit K & 3 more in the next few days just as a precaution. Gave her an anti nausea shot also. So far so good. Vet gave her canned bland food to the wknd. If she vomits tonight or in the am I am to take her back for fluids. She seems fine right now. I gave her a couple tbs of food, so see how she does. I'll give her a 1/4 can later. Vet told me to give her 1/4 tablet of pepcid ac for next 5 days. Thansk fo your good thoughts.

Excellent! Olive sick: throwing up 977583 Barking at nothing is a very good sign (although I am convinced that Penny sees things that I don't).
