Do you think a shot of Dexamethazone would cause a blood clot? Empty Do you think a shot of Dexamethazone would cause a blood clot?

I contacted an animal communicator on Sat, as you all know I am not accepting or I should say dealing with Rupert's death very well. One of the girls at my new vets office said her Aunt had done it when her dog passed away and it made her feel better.
Anyway she ( the animal communicator) said that whatever the vet gave Rupert the last time he was at the emergency vets which was June 6th was the cause of the blood clot.
They gave him Benadryl along with a shot of Dexamethazone, I looked the latter up and sure enough one of the severe side affects are blood clots.
I know this won't bring him back and I will never know for sure what caused it I am just grasping at staws here.

Any thoughts?

Not sounding likely to me, particularly because a clot and an aneurysm are 2 different things. It was an abdominal aortic aneurysm, yes?

not sure, the vet said a vein had burst from a blood clot but also said called it an aneurysm, I assumed they were the same thing. The vein was located behind the right adrenal glad near the right kidneys? I have more information at home I'm trying to go by memory, when she was talking to me I was half there.

I'd kind of be surprised if one shot would do it. Yes, steroids can cause blood clots, and it happens far more with long term use. A clot can form in an aneurysm, which (in very rough terms) is a separation of the layers of a blood vessel (generally an artery and usually the aorta or in the brain, but it can be a vein and generally in the legs in humans. I have a huge varicose vein aneurysm in my right lower thigh), and the formation of a kind of a pouch. An arterial aneurysm is more likely to rupture and, if it is the aorta, it can result in a fairly rapid bleed-out. That is what happened to my next-oldest brother. A venous aneurysm could clot.

Donna, there are so many possibilities and causes and you are going to torture yourself trying to answer "why?".

Sometimes these things can happen just because they happen. Trying to go back and see if there was anything you could have done differently is not fair on you. You are going to build up guilt that you don't deserve. This could have been something genetic that was there from birth. It is absolutely natural to try to find answers because I can tell you are not ready to accept what happened and that's okay. This is a process and each stage has to be worked through, but do understand that is what is happening and let yourself move on to the next stage.

My heart breaks for you as I truly and absolutely understand what you're going through. I've been there. More than once. I think the hardest one is the first time when you have nothing to reference back to and not know how you're going to make it through, but you DO make it through.

There's no right or wrong in grief, but you must try to be gentle with yourself. Do you think a shot of Dexamethazone would cause a blood clot? 27965

I don't know you all that well donna, but im sure I will get to know you as I hang around the site more. When kayho died I was hurting, we always assumed he would be with us forever. The pain you feel inside is what shows us we are human, look at your pain and realise the love you have for repert, pugs are very emotionally attatched to their owners, i can promise you 100 percent rupert knows you love him. There was no place in this world rupert would rather have been than with you, he doesn't want you to try to find the cause of this, he doesn't want you to blame yourself, the is no one in this world th at could have taken better care of rupert than you.

I know this pain donna, its that gutwrenching feeling in your gut, the feeling that your heart is going to explode in your chest, my aunt died from complications of something so simple, my uncle litterally lost his mind he spent two years believing that he was the reason his soulmate died, raw emotion can be your undoing, you need your time to grieve, but if you look to hard for the answers to why, you will never be able to move on.

You still have others to take care of, they are looking for your love, they are looking for your company, your approval in the silly things they do. They love you, and your are their mother, they need you.

Thank you Chris, this was if there is a dog soulmate mine. I know I have Vivian to look after and she is doing just fine but my heart is very heavy for Rupert. Life is just not fair sometimes and this is one of those times.

I completely understand, being in the military I have experienced unbelievable loss, we learn quickly to remember the good times over the bad, it makes it easier to deal in the long run. Im just glad I can share my experiences here, and hopefully it will help someone with their pain and grief.

Thanks again Chris, tomorrow it will be one month and I am no where near remembering the good times as the heartache is right on the surface.

This is what the vet said, as best as I could take notes.
Right cranial (forward) section of abdomen- bleeding came from area ahead of the right adrenal gland and behind the liver and kidney.

Donna, after posting my technical answer, I realized that it really wasn't an answer, but I was off the computer all day yesterday. I have to echo what Blanche and Chris said. I can only imagine your pain, and I know that I am going to be a total basket case when Penny dies. You are in my prayers every night.

Nancy, that is what I am looking for a technical answer to see if I can maybe narrow down what happened. I know I will never know 100%.

yes this was different. Linda did a reading this one says she can channel the actual dog and it can talk with her.
I'm not sure I believe it but I was at a very low point last Saturday and was looking for anything to bring me back to him, so I parted with my $85 and called her, not sure how I felt about it now or then.
