Limping
I think Mac torqued his leg jumping off the couch last night-he got tangled up in some blankets. He's favoring his front right leg, but still putting weight on it and not really hesitating to walk. I have felt all up and down his leg without any reaction from him and otherwise he's acting fine-no obvious pain symptoms. He slept well last night and his amazing internal alarm clock had him up at the normal time.
Is this worthy of a vet visit? I have rimadyl at home, but I'm not giving him anything without reason or recommendation. If it's something like a pull/twist/sprain, only muscle or tissue, would they be able to do something for him?

Re: Limping
I am sorry, I have no experience or expertise... I am a conservative, "wait and watch" type... but you know your dog, your self, and your schedule in terms of being near the dog to see what he's getting into (or NOT participating in) that's normal for him...
hugs to you all.
I know *I* can be limpy for a day after a twist, and after a good night, I am right as rain again.

Re: Limping
I would hate to recommend an under-reaction... but, if it were me, and he was only slightly limping, no obvious pain, no other symptoms, then I would give a rimadyl and do crate rest for a day. If no improvement, then a vet visit.
It's funny though, dogs can mask pain so well!

Re: Limping
I would wait and watch as well. An anti-inflammatory and crate rest would help the healing though.

Yes, I'm with the "wait and watch" brigade on this one. Just give it 24 hours and if no better, off to the vet. Hope he's much better in that time!

Me too. I've found over the years that 99% of the time, the limp disappears in a day or so.

Re: Limping
Thanks everyone! He was much better while I was home for lunch. Still a limp but not as pronounced. Hopefully a good night's rest will help him back to 100%.

Excellent. Please give him a hug from me, and tell him to quit the acrobatics.

Re: Limping
So on a Thursday I come home and Ozzy is limping. I kept him quiet that night and went to work the next day. I come home and he is a bit better but still limping. I get worried because it is the weekend so I take him to the ER vet. He limps into the waiting room and we sit down. We get moved into the exam room and I sit on the floor with him on my lap. The Vet walks in and Ozzy jumps up and runs over to her full speed - NO LIMP. It cost me $185 to learn I had a drama pug and I was a neurotic pug mom.
