Seizure?

I took stitch for a walk tonight, and right after we got home I took him to the shower to wash his feet, well he started coughing in the shower so I quickly took his harness off, and he went limp hit the floor and started peeing and within a couple of seconds was back on his feet again, looking at me like I was crazy did he faint or was it a seizure? His harness is alittle bit tighter cause he gained weight, and he pulls allot when I walk him could it have been a lack of oxygen?


There was no shaking, trembling, clenched jaw, he just went limped and urinated. It literally only lasted a couple of seconds

Sounds more like a fainting spell than an actual seizure. I wouldn't panic but watch him very closely for the next few days. It is not uncommon for Pugs to have fainting spells, usually through a lack of oxygen. In the vast majority of cases they have have no after-effects and can have a few episodes through the life-times. I have had a couple experience them close together and then never again. As to seizures, they can come in many forms, some so barely perceptible you would not know they were happening. Put seizures out of your mind for know. If one DOES happen it is obvious, one of the causes can be a liver shunt, which is very treatable. My Pearl had one and one of the signs was a seizure. Hope it was just "one of those things".

I really appreciate the response he scared me shitless, but in the back of my mind I knew it wasn't a seizure, when he initially fell I went to grab him quickly cause I thought he slipped, he was completely limp no tenseness nothing. It was like he was asleep, all of a sudden he hopped up and started barking. We called the vet right away and she calmed us a bit said it could be allot of different things from low glucose to overheating, stitch is drinking lots of water, and he seems fine now. He has a free pass to sleep in the bed tonight lol

Vivian did this a few times when she was a puppy, it is soooo scary but luckily it never happened again. The vet chalked it up to basic growing pains.

Oh dear, I bet you were scared to death. Bless your heart. I have a Pug named Andie that used to do something similar (still does it when she gets really excited), she would be running, or super hyper or excited about anything (door bell, walk, airplane flying by, etc...) and she would suddenly pass out for a few seconds and then be back to normal as if nothing happened. This started when she was 1 year old but she still occassionally does it and she is now 7 years old. My vet diagnosed it as Canine Syncope Syndrome, she said Andie gets so hyper that she stops breathing cutting off the oxygen supply to her brain, which leads her to passing out and then once her body relaxes, she comes back to normal. Research into it led me to finding out that syncope is not a seizure, but it looks a lot like one. The term syncope (or fainting) refers to cerebral anemia. Syncope causes collapse, which may last from seconds to minutes. Most fainting spells are due to low blood pressure or lack of oxygen delivery to the brain.

Kimchi has Syncope. It took forever to figure it out. I finally figured it out and went to the vet with my "diagnostic suggestion" and he agreed. In her case, it might be some tracheal damage from de-barking, or just breathing issues (she has a very flat face and has more difficulty breathing than Thurston). She doesn't have any known heart problems which is another cause. Just keep notes on when it happens and what's going on with him right before he faints.

I appreciate the replies it makes me feel a little more at ease, but we did get the blood work back from the Vet and stitch is on a month long blood watch :( His Calcium and Phosphorus levels came back high. Not sure what is going on the vet says that it could be for a number of reasons, but says there is no signs of kidney problems, heart is normal, said its possible he ingested something toxic, but he personally wants to see stitch twice a week for blood tests.

But it wasn't our normal vet that saw him it was the head vet and owner of the hospital, he said he was concerned about stitch and wanted to check him out personally. Thought it was pretty cool tbh, I do like our normal vet but I like that he personally wanted to check stitch out to make sure everything was ok.

Fingers crossed that Stitch's blood work normals out soon. He is such a cutie, please give him a hug from me.
