Bumps
Lucy has another bump of some sort. I know it hasn't been there long because we're always feeling her all over since she had the MCT. The best I can describe is that it's on her throat. Kinda looks bug bite-ish but you know how that goes. She's had a few other bumpy type things that have disappeared but this is bigger (and redder). I know some of you have had extensive MCT experience. How long do you watch and wait before you go to the vet? I'd think/hope it's an easy spot for removal since there's a lot of loose skin but being so close to her throat is a bit worrisome.
Re: Bumps
I'm usually right on to them and get the vet to check them immediately, but I think a week of careful watching won't make a lot of difference. Of course, if there is a dramatic change, don't delay. Hope it disappears!

Re: Bumps
When you all talk about these bumps, are they under the skin or on the outside? Sorry to hijack your thread Amanda but I just noticed a bump on Gracie's elbow the other night but it's outside the skin. Almost looks like a bite of some sort. I've been keeping an eye on it and was going to have my sister look at it next time I saw her but am curious now that you are talking about it.

Oh great...that's what hers is. Guess I'll have to get it checked out sooner then later. It has gone down in size since I first noticed it. It was red the other day and now today it is smaller and not red, it more blends in with her skin color now.

Re: Bumps
Lucy has had a couple bumps that have disappeared. After her MCT, I freak about every little bump but try to wait them out. The one that turned out to be an MCT, I honestly probably never would have taken her to the vet for. Kyle was driving me bonkers asking me about it so I took her to shut him up. It was really tiny and not very raised. You just never know.GracieNEmma wrote:Amanda wrote:

Re: Bumps
MCTs can have all kinds of appearances, sadly. Emmet's was large and subcutaneous, but they can also be raised. It's a tough call. If it just appeared, though, I don't think waiting a day or two will make too much difference (and this from a doggie hypochondriac.)
Wally's skin right near the corner of his eye swelled up yesterday, so I gave him a Benadryl. It's much better today, but I'm still watching it (the mosquitoes here have been AWFUL). If it gets bigger or doesn't go away fully, I'll call the vet.
Wally also had a gross growth on his paw years ago called a histiocytoma. The vet gave me some drops to help that go down, but he said it would also go down on it's own. Amanda's right, bumps are so tricky.

Re: Bumps
Now Nell has something on her belly. We can't be unlucky enough to get 2 MCTs at once can we? Ugh. I've decided to give both bumps a week and then off to the vet we'll go. Hopefully with only 1 pug (or none!)
Re: Bumps
Penny has four lumps - if they were on me, I'd call them skin tags. Following her dogtor's advice, I've been watching them for two years now without a change. But I check them every night with her massage, and any change at all will send us flying to the vet's.

Re: Bumps
Just wanted to share that Lucy went to the vet today and the bump was not an MCT. Vet said it had round cells and not mast cells and was most likely a histiocytoma. I wanted to make a point of sharing that it wasn't an MCT because it looked almost identical to the MCT she had. Vet said MCTs, round cell "tumors" (which are benign) and I forget the 3rd thing, all look the same externally. He said it might actually grow a bit and they tend to sometimes get a bit ulcerated (which means the immune system is fighting it - Kyle told me this) but should eventually go away. I wish I had a pic of the first bump so I could show just how similar the 2 looked. These bumps are tricky creatures!GracieNEmma wrote:Amanda wrote:

Re: Bumps
don't know how I missed this. glad she's ok! I'm dealing with some rash on Zoe and getting ready to put some ointment on her as we speak.

Re: Bumps
Excellent news on Lucy's bump. Histocytomas are on the no worry list. Hugs to Lucy and to you.

Darn MCTs can be so sneaky, looking like just about anything. Glad this was a false alarm!!!
