Re: buh-bye Cesar Milan
Yeah, but has a new show starting on Nat. Geo Wild. We'll see how that one goes.
I wish ALL the TV trainers would just stop--both the force free and the dominance trainers. It just makes training look like something you can do between commercials and doesn't really show the subtleties involved in communicating appropriately with your dog.

i'm with blanche - all the shows just give the wrong impression. and i still run into people who think that milan is the last word in dog training. they are shocked when i explain the difference between obedience and shutting down, and remind them that milan has been bitten many many many times. but at least he is going to be off the air -

Except he's not going to be off the air. His new show is tentatively called Leader of the Pack and he's going to be working with theoretically unadoptable dogs in shelters and rescues to "rehab" them into adoptable dogs. I have big fears about him using his techniques with dogs that are already highly stressed.

Oh great! That's even worse. They will make rescues and shelter dogs out to look like damaged dogs. Stupid Caesar. He's caused enough damage, he should disappear now.
Re: buh-bye Cesar Milan
Here's the blurb on his website about the show:
Cesar Millan and Nat Geo Wild are proud to announce a new 12-part series Leader of the Pack
starring Cesar Millan. In the new series, Millan combats the global
issue of canine abandonment, giving 'unadoptable' dogs a second chance
and coaching families from across Europe who are vying for the
opportunity to adopt these lucky pups.
With countless dogs abandoned across the globe and carrying scars from their experiences that make them poor candidates for adoption,
Millan steps in to rehabilitate those dogs whose uncertain futures are
threatened with lifelong incarceration or euthanasia. Transferring
extreme cases to his Dog Psychology Center — this time in Spain — Millan
will rely on his framework dog behavioral expertise as well as his
instincts to isolate each dog's problem issues, reverse bad habits and
give dogs the confidence and ability to join their new 'pack'. He will
employ his 'exercise, discipline and affection' method, overcoming hurdles with dogs that are particularly skittish or aggressive to painstakingly rehabilitate each pup at his center and prepare them for adoption.
But Millan's biggest challenge may be training
the families from the UK, Italy and the Netherlands who are hoping to
give the dogs a new lease on life. Three families from each country will
travel
to Spain for each episode to compete for the chance to adopt one
special pup, and their dog skills will be put to the test. Millan will
evaluate each potential adoptee through a series of assessments designed
to gauge their canine compatibility — and identify any red flags —
before choosing the dog's best match.
"All dogs deserve a second chance; an opportunity to thrive in a
stable and balanced environment," said Millan. "Giving these dogs the
ability to live a happy and healthy life with a new family is the
greatest reward to working with canines, and I am thrilled to work with
Nat Geo Wild on this global partnership."

Re: buh-bye Cesar Milan
Is that idiot based in Spain now? Or is that temporary just for this series or (Dog Forbid) is he starting an international franchise??
I wonder if he chose Spain because of the traditional attitudes (i.e. bullfighting, the Pamplona running with the bulls etc...)? Or have I completely missed the mark?

Ugh, what a complete and utter waste of air time that show is going to be! I can't stand that guy!! Has anyone seen the commercial for his show where it's like a dream sequence where he's singing to the dog & showering it with affection, treats, etc, then he wakes up and does that damn "pssssst" noise at the dog sitting on his bed? It drives me batty every time that I see it!
Re: buh-bye Cesar Milan
Aw, crap. I was so hoping that he was just going away. Instead, he's like herpes - the gift that keeps on giving.

Amanda wrote:"Vying for"? Is it a contest?
OMG!! You are right, Amanda. The poor rescue dogs are the prizes in a competition.
That would be illegal in this country. They may not be auctioned, raffled or offered as prizes. Good grief.

What an a$$hole! National Geographic magzine was always so cool but their TV network carries a whole lot of BS programming.
