Malaseb Pledgets?
What is everyone using as an alternative? I have a friend whose pug has nose roll issues and he had stocked up on them, but is out. I told him I'd see what you experts are suggesting. Thanks!

Re: Malaseb Pledgets?
This is an old post about the shampoo but I seem to remember there being some talk about the wipes as well

Re: Malaseb Pledgets?
I remembered that post about them. I guess they're still not being sold. I told him to try the ones I posted above. Hopefully they work for his pug Zoe.

Re: Malaseb Pledgets?
For the pug nose cleaning I use Stridex that you can find at most drugstores. It is a lot less expensive than the pet products. I was first told about this by a breeder who shows her pugs. Our pugs no longer have any nose fold problems and there is lovely short fuzz growing where it used to be red and sore.

Thanks, Elaine, I didn't even think about Stridex pads. I passed along the info. I'm sure that will be easier.

Re: Malaseb Pledgets?
I got some of the mal-a-ket wipes.
How often do you use them? Daily, more than once, or less often?

We just ran out of our pledgets and got some Mal-A-Ket from our vet. Haven't used them yet, though.

Re: Malaseb Pledgets?
Kendie, how often are you using the wipes on Bruno's face? Has it ever gotten in his eyes? I'm using it on Daisy's face, and I scared about it getting in her eyes, but the infections go right up to her eyelids! Can I use the wipe daily?

We don't use them daily unless it's really bad. Usually every 3 or 4 days. We just do the nose folds and use baby wipes for the area around the eyes.
Could Daisy have a staph infection? We took Bruno in last week because he had infections around his eye and cheek area. The vet said it was a staph infection. Bruno is on cephalexin and we apply Animax ointment every day. Then follow up with the Mal A Ket. The vet also recommended baby powder in the nose folds but we chose not to do that because I don't want him breathing in the talc.

Re: Malaseb Pledgets?
I use Douxo chlorhexidine in place of the Malaseb wipes. My vet says the Dermatologist Specialists uses these now. Been using them for the past 6 months and it seems to work on my babies. They are thicker pads as well. I buy mine online like EntirelyPets.com for $12.99. My vet charges $17.99 for them.
Douxo Chlorhexidine 3% PS Pads (30 count)
These medicated pads provide unparalleled activity in topical management of pyoderma and Malassezia. Can be used for the antiseptic cleaning of interdigital areas, chin acne lesions and nasal/lip and other fold pyodermas in cats and dogs.
Active ingredients:
Chlorhexidine, 3%
Climbazole, 0.5%
Phytosphingosine Salicyloyl, 0.05%
Unit Size: 30 wipes.
Also, my black pug, Boley, has been fighting an infection in the rolls for over two years. I've tried everything under the sun to clear it up. It got so bad that it was always bloody and so gunky. He was prescribed Muricin ointment. Used it on him and his infection went away and has not come back. It did wonders for my baby. I still have half a tube left and use it on all my babies with a possible infection. This is a must have IMO.
Muricin: Indicated for the topical treatment of canine bacterial infections of the skin, including superficial pyoderma, caused by susceptible strains of Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus intermedius

Our vet (who specializes in brachycephalics) recommended the Stridex pads, too. I buy the teal colored box that says it's for "Sensitive Skin."

Re: Malaseb Pledgets?
I was taking care of some bulldogs over the weekend (2 Brits and a French) and my client had THESE wipes for cleaning their wrinkles. They smell a LOT like Malaseb wipes and they are available OTC. Might be a good alternative.
