I have a friend with a Golden Retreiver that was recently diagnosed with Diabetes. Do any of you have any resources that I can pass along to her? Links, forums, etc? Specifically she was looking into homemade diets instead of the commercial pet foods, but I am sure that any resources will be helpful.

Have her get the book Raw & Natural Nutrition for Dogs, by Lew Olsen. There is some invaluable information on raw and home-cooked diets, including diets specifically for conditions like diabetes, etc.

Also, the site www.dogaware.com has some good info on nutrition, and Lew often refers people to the site.

I like both of these sources because they recognize that not everyone can do raw, and they give good thought to home-cooking or even kibble w/ supplementation.

The resources that Renee mentioned are a couple of my favorites as well. Here is a link to Lew Olson's newsletter/article on low glycemic diets, which might be a good starting point for her: http://www.b-naturals.com/newsletter/low-glycemic/

Here are a couple of diabetes specific websites with lots of useful info, too:
