Edgar's dental surgery
Yesterday Edgar went to the dentist and had a bit of dental surgery done. I knew that he had some really good swelling in his upper gums where the canine teeth were due to erupt, and I'm really glad my vet sent us to the doggie dentist. It turns out that swelling were cysts in his gums and if left untreated could have lead to destruction of his jaw. He also had a cyst under the gumline as well. In addition, none of his incisors, primary or secondary, had ever come through. It turns out the roots had closed up on both sets and they never would have erupted. So, both sets of incisors were removed, and the dentist drained the cysts and saved all 4 of Edgar's canine teeth. He's a sore little guy right now and not having a good reaction to the liquid antibiotic. He's also on tramadol, so he's a bit sleepy, which may not be such a bad thing.
Once he's healed from the dental surgery he's scheduled for his nose wrinkle reduction and eye work. I hope once those are done, he's done with surgery for a while. All the doctors keep asking about his nares and I keep telling them, let him finish growing first and then we'll discuss it. That and I don't think my budget will tolerate another assault on it for a while. I'm still waiting for the eye doctors estimate for the wrinkle reduction and eye work. Keep my bank account in your prayers! He's been expensive, but he's so worth it.

Poor little muffin! What an awful lot of surgery that was. How wonderful that you were able to take him to someone who really knew what they were doing -- sounds like it would have had some dire consequences if you hadn't! Much love to little Edgar.

OMG Cathy, thankfully you are a responsible and caring pug-owner and had all this done! What a lot to deal with. I'm just glad that everything is totally fixable and Edgar can enjoy just growing up and being a delightfully naughty puppy.
And I know what it's like with a puppy that has "issues" in its first year. Pearl was like that and it culminated in liver shunt surgery when she was a year old. Since then she's never looked back. Like you my wallet took a beating and I didn't get anything back on insurance. $10,000 the first year.

I know he came from a good breeder, but yikes! It seems like he's had so many health challenges. I feel for the little guy! He's been through alot in his short time!

Good thoughts to Edgar, and good thoughts to your wallet. Edgar landed in high gravy when he came to live with you!
