It is getting worse and worse. Diamond has been announcing a new recall every few days.

One of my number one brands, a go to brand, that I recommend to people, is included in the recall - Taste of the Wild. I know a lot of people on here use this brand too.

The recall has gotten so expansive that Diamond set up a website for consumers: http://diamondpetrecall.com/

Thanks for the info, Renee. Unfortunately, I never save the food bags since we empty it into a container as soon as we buy it. But I did call the store where we get it and she says none of the recalled food was distributed in our area, which is what I saw on the Diamond website too. I'm going to have to start remembering to clip and save the important information from the food bag when I buy it, so I have it from now on.

I'm the same, Rachel. Fortunately, I don't have any TOTW right now or I'd be freaking.

Not giving up yet, since cooking for mine is so not an option - i forget to shop and feed me half the time ... Diamond Naturals is all I feed here, so I am watching everyone - the stores in our area are holding to nothing in our area being affected. I am washing hands and using sanitizer after I feed.

Pet Food Recalls - Diamond / Taste of the Wild, many more Empty dog food recall

Post  Miss Pugg 5/4/2012, 9:49 pm

One post said 14 people have gotten salmonella from 'infected' dog food. It also said in another post that some Solid Gold food is made in SC. Willow can eat S.G. Melennia only and she's been lethargic and quiet lately. I'm like the other poster, I dump the food and never save the bag. I don't know how to get in touch with S.G. or if they'd even respond. A lot of the recalled food is premium food which I used to think was safe and good for the dogs. I still don't understand why Chinese chicken treats are STILL being sold by merchants....

Because in all the tests and investigation by the FDA there is still not a clear answer for what the potential contaminant is.
Up to the Merchants to pull the product if they feel there is a danger and without the proof, and a highly profitable product - there won't be empty shelves anytime soon.

Even though Nevada is not supposed to be affected, I am still very glad that I switched Penny to Earthborn, and plan to keep her on it until that one gets recalled. I'm about ready to start cooking for my little girl!

Frick, Frick, and Frick!!! I was out of town yesterday and Julian was at the Animal Hospital where he boards and I heard the other TOTW news and lost it, I immediately called the vet and told her to stop feeding him until I figure out what the hell to do!!!

The hardware store said the bag he had wasn't affected but still!!!! Thank God he was where he was!

Thank you so much for the information.

As soon as I read the news about TOTW, I called the store where I buy my Pugs' food.

Gratefully, Wyoming is not one of the distribution destinations affected by the recall (yet).

I feed Chicken Soup Dry Senior, TOTW Lamb, and TOTW Fish. What the heck??

I always thought those brands didn't go thru Diamond, but I guess I was wrong, or they changed.

Honestly MaryJo, I am still in shock over how many petfood companies are partnered with Diamond for manufacturing. I don't know that Diamond owns all these companies, so much as they own the manufacturing facility that many of the companies use. Either way, this is terrible. They are recalling bags as far back as December 2011 through April 2012. That is a lot of damn food that is at risk.

If The Honest Kitchen ever has a recall, I will be done with commercial food for good.

From what I have read, there are only a few dry dog food manufacturing facilities in the U.S. and of course, Diamond is one of the bigger ones. We feed Fromm, who owns their own facility and has never had any recalls that I know of (knock wood!) but these continued problems with commercial dog food are making me think that I need to start cooking for my pugs again.

Brenda, I completely agree with you here. This uncertainty is so hard on pet parents. I know so many people that feed TOTW, Natural Balance, Canidae and Wellness. Diamond said that none of those products tested positive for anything, and the recall was just precautionary - but, how does one decide if precaution is enough? Are we over- or under-reacting? These are very popular, and high quality foods, and that bothers me even more!

Pet Food Recalls - Diamond / Taste of the Wild, many more Empty Re: Pet Food Recalls - Diamond / Taste of the Wild, many more

Post  LisaIzzyAggy 5/7/2012, 4:04 pm

I spoke with customer service at Natural Balance today. I don't know if I necessarily believe 100% of what they say but I do feel slightly better. They said that NB does their own independent testing for salmanella after they get the food from the Diamond facility but before they ship to stores. They did not detect any issues. Once the problems started cropping up with other companies they tested again without any issues. They, along with every company who uses the Diamond manufacturing facility was asked by the FDA to submit to a voluntary recall which they did.
