Buster is now a tripawd
Buster had his left rear leg amputated yesterday & gets to come home tonight. Yay! Even with 4 other pugs, the house felt empty without him there. I'm nervous to see what the incision/amputation site looks like. They called me with an update this morning & said it's bruising pretty badly (which is normal) and to be prepared. But he's hopping around already, getting used to his new center of balance, and eating & pottying ok so that's good news. His leg is being sent out for biopsy & we should have the results in 7-10 days as to exactly what type of cancer he has/had. The surgeon mentioned that there's a slight chance that it's synovial cell sarcoma based on what he saw on the xrays. While it's still cancer, it's a less aggressive one so I'm holding out hope. I'll post pictures of our little tripawd once the bruising goes away. Thanks for all of the good thoughts & support.

Brenda, I'm so glad the surgery went well and he'll be home with you soon. Give him some gentle hugs from me.

So good to hear the surgery went ok and that Buster is already adapting. I hope his recovery is smooth and you can get some answers soon from the biopsy.
Continued good thoughts for you and Buster.

aw, poor buster. hope he recovers well. it's funny how it always seems empty in the house when one is missing, even though you have multiples.

Sending healing wishes to Buster. It will most likely be much harder on your than Buster..........pugs adapt so quickjly to their situation........even being a tripod.

Re: Buster is now a tripawd
Sounds like a good idea for him. Actually, I think it hurts us more to look at them afterward than they feel. I freaked out when I saw my first pug Rex after his leg was amputated and all the stitches etc. But, he did pretty good. Glad Buster's doing good so far!

Re: Buster is now a tripawd
Who needs four legs? Not Buster. I've had a couple of three leggers in foster care and it never fails to astonish me how well they do. Lots of kisses out to Buster and a big hug to you, hon.
Re: Buster is now a tripawd
Please give him a gentle hug from me. He has been in my prayers, and I will say one tonight that the pathology report is good.

Re: Buster is now a tripawd
My bosses dog (a shepard mix) just had his back left leg amputated and my boss has been bringing him to work every day. He is doing GREAT (the boss is another story).
PS: Imagine the attention that a 3-legged dog gets in a mental health clinic for the Canadian military.

Re: Buster is now a tripawd
I think something like this bothers us more than them - we project our feelings of loss onto them, while they just get on with managing with three legs. Hugs to Buster and I know he'll be running with the rest of the pugs very, very soon.
