Worried about Snifter
I let the boys out into the garden first thing, as usual. Snifter screamed and came back in almost immediately. I didn't see what happened (if anything) as I was in the kitchen.
Snifter seemed unkeen on walking, so I made him walk about a bit to see if there was anything obvious like a limp. There wasn't.
I went upstairs to see what he would do. He was very unwilling to follow, but then he did, and cried whilst doing so. No obvious issues with gait, though.
As luck would have it I had an appt with the vet for first thing anyway, as Toddy's had an eye infection and was due a check up.
Snifter screamed blue murder when lifted in and out of the car and onto the vet table. Really screamed. It was horrible.
The vet gave him a good going over. There is nothing obvious. He thinks that the pain is in Snifter's back. He gave him a shot of painkiller and I'm to observe him today to see if he gives any other clues as to what's wrong. We go back in tomorrow morning to review.
He ate his breakfast fine. He did eventually pee and poo just before the vet appt. He didn't seem to have any trouble assuming the poo position but he was unwilling to pee. After the vet appt (and the painkiller jab) he did an enormous pee and I'm thinking that it must have been uncomfortable for him to lift his leg.
He's sleeping now.
Thinking about it, he has been a bit quiet the past few days. He has also on occasion leapt out of a deep sleep screeching. Toddy has always done this from time to time and Iput it down to dreaming. However I now wonder whether Snifter was actually in pain rather than dreaming.
I'm sure we all know about those times when you wish they could talk.

Re: Worried about Snifter
How scarey. I will think good thoughts. If the peeing is a problem, could it be a stone/crystal? It does sound like a back issue, but just a thought. Hopefully some pain meds and rest will be enough to hep him heal.

Re: Worried about Snifter
Oh no, I hope he gets better soon. CP has a recurring back injury and we just have to keep her quiet and no jumping for a couple weeks and it resolves itself, but it's just terrible when they hurt and we don't quite know why.

Re: Worried about Snifter
Oh no! Poor Little Snifter Pug!!
yes, very scary when something is wrong and we don't know. I am glad the painkillers were able to give him relief enough to pee.
I would watch the peeing closely, as a large stone can cause pain and pee problems.

Re: Worried about Snifter
It would be so much simpler if they could just tell us what is wrong. I hope it's something simple that resolves itself.

Poor little guy, I can imagine how worried you are. I hope it's just something "mechanical" that will be fine with some suitable meds, lots of rest and TLC from mum, dad and brudder.

Re: Worried about Snifter
He is much brighter this morning and although he was reluctant to come upstairs and was not running around quite as vigorously as usual you wouldn't know anything was wrong unless you were his mum.
We'll see what vet says later.

I'm glad he seems to be on the mend. Hope in another 24 hours he's humping his brother.
