So Aine is zzzing from her Pug Fest adventure and she ate a LOT of people food - which I normally do not do. Now I am getting her back to the kibble and we are having a hard time. hair pull

Is it okay to sprinkle parmasian cheese(just a sprinkle) on her kibble? I used to do that with my other non-pug - he loved it. But can I do this long term? Is this healthy for pugs? I tried sprinkling a little water on her kibble - she just spat it out. I hid treats - she of course found the treats and didnt eat the kibble. hair pull I have fed her by hand....

But when I was pulling the parmasian cheese bottle out of the fridge Aine was like "OHHH HUMAN FUD. ME GETSING SOMES. NUMS" Than she goobled it all up!! Even with a sprinkle!

Welcome all thoughts. I am more concerned if there are long term effects. Thank you!

I have to say you're a kinder mommy than me. If they won't eat when I put their food down, it gets picked back up. A little while later I'll put it down again for them. They get maybe one more chance to eat it. Then they wait until the next meal. We usually only have this problem if Diesel is transitioning from a bland diet back to kibble. But mama don't play games - you don't eat when it's dinner time, you don't eat!!! I know that sounds terrible, but these guys would walk all over me if I let them, so I have to draw the line somewhere.

I can't answer your parmesan cheese question - not sure if it's good or bad for them. Hope you get Aine's feeding straightened out!

No you are not a mean Mommy! I used to do that all the time... but than Aine scared me with not eating for 3 days nor Pooping and I got to be a worried mommy.

And this was all rather recently.... so I will make sure she has some more kibble in the belly before I start putting it up... but thank you for reminding me! Hug

Forgot that I *could* do that..... sigh

Bear has always been my difficult one and we end up sprinkling shredded cheese of some kind on his food. This was at the recommendation of our vet because when Bear skips a meal he gets ill and pukes up bile. It's no fun and the cheese fixed it for us. As long as she's showing no signs of allergies to the cheese then I don't see the harm

You're not alone, my mom used to hand grate Pupperoni over our family dog's food to get him to eat. He wouldn't eat his breakfast because he knew if he held out until dinner he would get the yummy garnish. Laughing

In our house, if they don't want to eat, they just don't eat. No big deal. Unless I'm worried there could be something actually wrong with their food, I don't do anything to encourage them to eat.

Yes, all of mine could surely miss a meal. I would worry about them if they didn't eat, only because it would mean they were sick, very very sick. It's the only time the food isn't inhaled. I think with my old man, Gus, I would worry about more, but only cause of his age. He eats like a champ, so again it would mean something was seriously wrong.

Now, as for my neurotic 170+ lb Chihuahua trapped in the body of a mastiff, will go days without eating. He goes on eating strikes if I am gone. He won't even eat all the time when I feed him. But after a few feedings, he usually cleans out the bowl. Then all of a sudden for days in a row he will clean out the bowl at every feeding, so we never know and never worry about him.
