Dumpling has had Pyroderma several times now, she has been on antibiotic twice, and now she has it again, not just on her muzle, but around her eyes too. I have to call the vet today, but want to go in with a better understanding of what is going on with her.
Histoy:
Dumpling is 9 mos old.
I use corelle bowls for her and they go in the dishwasher and get sterilized every day.
She has goopy eyes, lots of eye boogers. All of us have environmental allergies right now, so I assumed she had them as well. She has been reverse sneezing a lot too.
Her nose fold is bald and it always bothers her, she itches it on the hearth. I have been wiping it out every day with a damp wash cloth. There is always black crud on the cloth. It is kind of stinky. The vet did do a scraping of both her nose fold and her bumps to make sure that it was not something else. It came back neg.
She had an ear infection last month, it hit fast and was really nasty, she went on antibiotic for it.
I suspected food allergies because her skin on her underbelly has gotten darker, but after eliminating beef, her skin has lightened up a bit, but her coat has spots on it in places ( she is fawn and black) She has always been a smuttier pug, but the spots and her trace on her back have really gotten dark, her trace almost looks like a saddle now.
I swiched her food to wheat free lamb, she also gets a table spoon of greek yogurt every night. We just started this.
Why does she keep getting infections? Can anyone suggest anything else and should she go on another round of abx and I put her on something like nzymes? Any further suggestions or food suggestions?
If it is food allergies, why isn't she getting hot spots, having itches elsewhere..so why would she keep getting infections? Recurrent Pyoderma pug acne 9386
TY for any suggestions you can offer.

my amateur thought is that food allergies can manifest themselves in different ways so she may not get the hot spots.

to get her nose roll clean, I'd suggest asking about a topical antibiotic ointment. when Dre's gets gunky, I'll clean it out with a baby wipe, then apply some of the antibiotic ointment we got for her ear infections (our vet suggested this). If it's really bad, I'll go after it with a Stridex pad (she hates it), and then apply the antibiotic.

My vet gave me an antibiotic powder that works really well in the wrinkle as it helps keep it dry. Great for hot spots and Bella likes to like her feet and it has helped that too!

I'm glad your vet did a scraping, and might want to do one again, but since that's negative so far, I'd say that a combination of food allergies and environmental allergies is your best bet. What food re you feeding now? I know you said it's wheat-free, but you may want to try one that's also completely grain-free, as grains seem to be big allergens. You might also want to try a more unique protein source. I know you said that beef seemed to be a trigger, but it might be worth it to try a fish or venison based food. I know that Natural Balance (available at Petco) makes several limited-ingredients food, and there are some others out there too.

My suggestion is a completely grain free limited ingredient diet with a unique protein source such as California Naturals Grain Free Venison. Great formula. Plus cut the yogurt out and use a powdered lactose free pro-biotic from a health food store (10 billion micro organisms or more is best) which will help boost the immune system. I find dairy products tend to increase mucus production (which can trigger reverse sneezing and other allergy symptoms). The good strength pro-biotics are important because of how much antibiotics she's been on, her system has taken a beating.

Also look into a detoxing program to help reset her immune system. I have a good solution at my own store but i couldn't get it across the border if i tried lol. So you might want to try out Cranimals Vibe for a detoxing effect.

I managed to get her on Natural balance limited ingrediets vennison and sweet potato. I also found some probiotics that don't have milk or grain products at the health food store in the refridgerator section, they are for children, but the lady said they should help....crossing fingers!!!
