Pug holiday treat question
I was at the super market this morning and bought a package of marrow bones (the nice small round ones) for
Ty and my grand pugs Christmas day treat.
Now I have a question. Do I give the bones to them "raw" or do I have to cook the bones? If so how long?
Thanks.

Re: Pug holiday treat question
I am not positive, but i think you can do either, since people just give their dogs raw food and meat..but i have never done that so i cant be for sure...
im interested in knowing as well .. :)
I bet your puggies are going to love them either way!

I was thinking the same thing. You have to freeze them before you feed them raw. 24 hours? Or more?Donna wrote:I'f I'm not mistaken you have to freeze them. Hopefully somone else will chime in.

Freezing them helps kill any bacteria I think....

Yes freeze them to kill all the nasties. Then feed them raw. If you cook them, they become brittle.

Re: Pug holiday treat question
Here is what I do--I freeze all bones for 72 hours then I scrape out most of the marrow--it is high fat and very rich and if your dog is not used to it, you can end up with diarrhea. Defrost and serve raw.
Re: Pug holiday treat question
Excellent idea! I will scrape out the good stuff Our pugs definitely do not need more fat! Zeke would most likely be the one to get diarrhea. He is the one with the sensitive tummy. Pumpkin makes him sick.

Re: Pug holiday treat question
Well, I have had two pugs in foster care over the years that were allergic to pumpkin and to sweet potato.pugmom wrote:Excellent idea!
