We are back in Puggy action! A new member after Lucky's passing
[img:68a9]http://www.pugauthority.com/[/img][img:67be]http://www.pugauthority.com/[/img]Hello everyone! I am back. It took some time for me to come back on here as I had a very heavy heart dealing with Lucky's passing. I do have to say that you all are wonderful people on here and gave us tons of encouragement and hope and candles for Lucky.
After dealing with such sadness in my son, we made the decision to get another pug. I did much research, reading, investigating and so on and so forth.
We found the one for us! His name is Ruger, after the gun because he is such a little pistol. He is a perfect fit and my son is once again happy, smiling, and laughing along with a little puppy who is VERY attatched to him already.
He has only been home for a short two days and has already learned when he wants to go to bed, that he needs to go in his crate and if he needs to go potty, he whines and we let him out and he runs to the door. He is SOOOOOOOO smart!
I decided to attach a picture so I can share the love with everyone. So here I am again, a little nervous from having a case of PDE but.....I did what was best for my family. :)

My son is just thrilled to have a dog again and a silly one at that. Ruger was dumped off in front of Petsmart here in a box and was cold and wet. One of my friends who works there called me knowing our situation and what just happened to Lucky so once again, here we were to the rescue. We took him to the vet right away to make sure he was ok. Everything came back good.
So thankfully it was a rescue case yet again. I cannot believe someone left him like that! I guess it was another meant to be case and I just hope for better health with this one as I dont think I can handle going through what we went through just a few short weeks ago.
I know that I wasnt ready to get another dog but I put my old feelings aside for my son and as you seen, he is happy once again and not searching day in and day out for Lucky. This has put his mind at rest.
We are also looking at some rescue pugs in the area once we move into our other house this summer :) Im going to surround my home with pugs in memory of Lucky

Wow That really was meant to be. I can't believe someone would do that.

What an adorable little guy (actually, both of them are.) And shame on whoever dumped a puppy like that.

Oh, I am so happy for you! Ruger is adorable and I love that pic with your son. Slome things are just meant to be. Shame on the person who dumped him, and yet Ruger hit the jackpot in finding a forever home with you.

Re: We are back in Puggy action! A new member after Lucky's passing
What I find so strange is shortly after Lucky passes, the same day we picked up Ruger from our friend who works at Petsmart, the Emergency Vet called and told us that Lucky's ashes were in.
It is almost like Lucky wanted to come home with the new puppy and welcome him into our home. It might sound silly but I think Lucky had some doing in this knowing that his family and his special boy was missing him so much. Ruger mimics a lot of Lucky's odd behaviors that we loved so very much and made him so unique. I feel we have a little piece of Lucky living in Ruger.

You know, that does not surprise me at all. I don't try to understand things like that, I just accept them as gifts.LuckyPugsMom wrote:What I find so strange is shortly after Lucky passes, the same day we picked up Ruger from our friend who works at Petsmart, the Emergency Vet called and told us that Lucky's ashes were in.

I'm glad you are back! And thanks for giving little Ruger a home. He looks like he's charmed the little man of the house anyway.

Not silly at all! I believe that Lucky had a paw in helping your hearts heal by bringing this puppy into your lives. Congratulations on your new addition!
Re: We are back in Puggy action! A new member after Lucky's passing
Congrats on bringing Ruger into your home and hearts. I understand how you feel about wondering if Lucky somehow brought him into your lives. After the loss of Pugsly and Taz, it is amazing how Tinker and Ruffy have so many of the personalities and oddities that both boys had. I feel that they are reaching out to me through these new goofballs.

Re: We are back in Puggy action! A new member after Lucky's passing
I have come to just accept that Ruger was brought to us by the grace of God and by Lucky. I actually could see Lucky plotting a plan with his silly little head cocked to the side, his tail wagging, and his snaggle tooth smile on how to help us out. Thats once thing I can say about Lucky, on the worst days he would bring a smile to your face. I thank him now for Ruger.
Only prob so far I see with Ruger is the vet thinks he is only 6wks old or so. God knows how long he has been away from his mamma and his front legs are kind of shaky at the pasterns and somewhat bow out a little when he sits and shake pretty good. Not sure if that could be due to his age. Ive been thinking about taking him back into the vet to see what they think about it but thought I might get some opinions really quick. They say 5-6wks on age...so I hope he grows out of it.
Other than that in just a few short days Ruger has learned to go into his crate when he wants to sleep ON HIS OWN :):):):) and when he has to go potty he whines to let us know. Not one accident in the house! He is sooooo smart.

He's a cutie, but after reading about what age the vet thinks he is, I'd probably get a second opinion from another vet about his health and age. It can't hurt.
Do you know anyone with pugs who might take theirs to a more experienced pug-vet?

I agree with MJ, Sophie was dumped at a young age due to medical issues so I am just extra wary and cynical about people, especially when they dump a dog that young. You might want to check with the local rescue to see if they know of a vet around you, the good thing about vets the rescue uses is they tend to be very familiar with pugs!
Good luck, I am glad he is in a good home!
Re: We are back in Puggy action! A new member after Lucky's passing
The vet that I use is a wonderful husband and wife team that deal with all types of animals. They even travel to Africa to work on wildlife that is injured and local zoo's also. I will call them and ask them if they know a specialist as I know they won't be offended as they are the nicest people there and dont charge a fortune for medical help. Ive used them for ten+ yrs now and they have saved many of my animals but I do think a 2nd opinion wouldnt hurt.
The shaking in the front end isnt horrible. It doesnt happen when he stands but when he sits he leans on them funny but then again he is so very tiny yet.
He goes in for his first set of shots this week so I will bring it up to my vet as a concern because they very well might have not seen it since he wasnt sitting. So we will go from there. As I am hoping it is nothing as Lucky's prior vet bills are still coming in left and right and we sure as heck arent a rich family.
