Carpet Scratching? Empty Carpet Scratching?

Post  erin1785 2/16/2010, 11:07 pm

So I'm having a problem with Chester. He keeps scratching at the carpet ,pretty much tearing it up.He does it right before he lays down.I have a dog bed for him which he does not use(which is currently used as his toy bin).Does anyone else have this problem?

They do get a little OCD sometimes! Maybe try redirecting his behaviour when he does it - call him and get his attention, then give him a treat when he responds.

mine did that a few times when he was younger. just enforce that that is not an acceptable behavior and distract him when he does it. hopefully a combo of those both can help..good luck!

It sounds like he's trying ti "make his bed". Both mine do it to pillows and blankets. I know you said he doesn't use his dog bed, have you tried adding a soft blanket to it so he can dig away? Dogs can be picky about their beds. Some prefer flat pads, others like bolster beds, some like small beds where they can curl up in a ball, others want large beds where they can stretch out. pay attention to his sleep habits and maybe you can find a bed that fits his personal "style".
