Garbage, chicken bones, coffee grounds
While I was sleeping, Calvin
ripped into a garbage bag that was on top of the counter (way out of
reach, I THOUGHT) and ate chicken bones, coffee grounds, and sweet
potato peelings. Called the vet and they said I just had to wait and see
what happens, unless I want to make him puke. I tried to give him
hydrogen peroxide but it didn't work. Anyone have thoughts? Advice? I'm
kind of freaking out.

Re: Garbage, chicken bones, coffee grounds
Give him some white bread with oil. The bread should kind of "cushion" the bones.
I would not make him puke, as the bones could hurt coming back out.
My pugs have done this many times.. and all survived.
Pray for him to poop them out. Good luck!
If no poop in the next 24-48 hours, or any signs of discomfort, then I would head to the vet.

Re: Garbage, chicken bones, coffee grounds
Thank you so much Renee. I just gave him the bread and oil and he looks like he won the lottery.
This little dude is my heart dog and he is giving me palpitations today LOL. He's already pooped twice though. I think something in there made his tummy really upset. I am worried about the bones but the coffee grounds are freaking me out too.
I keep obsessing, thinking about what was in that garbage bag! It was a small grocery bag, I used it for all the trimmings and garbage from dinner last night, as well as the aforementioned coffee grounds. It was scooched back on the counter to take out this morning. I keep picturing him pushing a chair up to the counter LOL.
And YEP, that's a poop in the middle of all the trash.

What a little stinker he is!
Now, when my pugs get in the trash the punishment is they have to miss the next meal. lol
The only one time I got really scared was when Ichiro got in the trash and ate an entire chicken carcass from one of those cheater chickens at the grocery store. Oh man! He did not poop for 2 days and he was in the vet's office getting xrayed when he finally laid his golden egg! What a relief!

Angus is really good and will ignore garbage but Calvin is, for lack of a better cliche, like a dog with a bone--nothing will distract him from his goal. I guess that's what I get for having a beagle in my life. They are very, very persistent!
The comment about "laying his golden egg" really, really made me laugh. Thanks!

What a "Perfect Storm" of garbage -- so many things pugs shouldn't have! The only way it could have been more perfect is if you had some leftover chocolate in there!
Rhoda ate a whole bunch of bones from baby back ribs once (fed to her surreptitiously by a well-meaning friend), and all was well. Besides a gurgly tummy, I bet Calvin will be fine too.

Now now, DeeDee! Calvin forgives you for implying he is a pug
I did have a fat free chocolate pudding container, but you can trust me when I say that bad boy didn't have any pudding left in it

I hope everything comes out okay. I hate bones.
He certainly does!

They do these things that send us into panic mode and they lay there, COMPLETELY oblivious, with the most smug look on their dials, like the cat that got the cream or the Beagle or Pug that got the trash.
Hope he lays the "golden egg".

He does look rather pleased with himself. Fingers, toes, paws, and eyes crossed that it all comes out ok. Beagles and pugs, they do love to scare us, don't they?

Re: Garbage, chicken bones, coffee grounds
Update: Calvin has slept all day, but that's normal. He just got up, stretched, and moved to another section of the couch.
Angus has presented me with two ginormous poops already, so obviously he was in on the whole caper. Wouldn't be surprised if he coordinated the entire thing. I have a vision of Angus balancing on Calvin's shoulders to snag the bag off the counter.
Also, Calvin is definitely pleased with himself. Check out the smile:

Oh, eeeek -- my apologies to Calvin, who looks to be a very handsome beagle indeed!

You got that right. I'm not mad at all, just worried. He's such a good boy for so long, then he does something very beagle-like and shakes me out of my lazy complacency.
And Dee Dee, Calvin doesn't mind. But next time he would like to be referred to as a Labrador. It is what he always dreamed of being LOL.

He does look like he is smiling. Hope it all turns out good.

update
Many, many poops but no chicken bones. Nervous mother here. Angus seems 100% but Cal is definitely off.
They skipped dinner last night. Angus was pretty upset about that but Calvin didn't care, which is worrisome in and of itself. He is such a chow hound.
So, I'm still on poop watch...and gave them both more bread with oil, just in case.

Re: Garbage, chicken bones, coffee grounds
Well, they've been pooping like mad, no problems though. Lots of little bits of bones still arriving but everyone seems to feel ok.
Thanks for asking, the boys and I really appreciate it.

As long as they poop and you see pieces, that is a Good Thing. Thanks for the update, I've been thinking of your boys.
