question about peeing in house
Izzy pees in the house. I know I have had her less than 2 weeks and she is nervous but I'm not sure where to start. She was using pee pads in her foster home and I would like to get away from them. I don't want Buddy and Ally peeing on them, they pee way too much.
Izzy will sleep 8 hours or more with no problem. She will pee almost every time I take her outside and will poop out there with no problem. The problem seems to be that she want to pee every few minutes whether she's been out or not. Could it be nerves or maybe a UTI (although like I said, she sleeps all night). I am leaning toward nerves (she will pee sometimes when I go to pick her up).
I am more than willing to be patient I am just wondering how to start to change her habits.

Re: question about peeing in house
I'd rule out a UTI, for sure. But it may very well be nerves and nervous dogs can be more prone to a number of issues.
I've become a huge proponent of melatonin for anxious dogs. Might be worth considering. But I'd definitely get the bladder checked first.

Yeah, I'm with Blanche on getting her checked for a UTI. The melatonin sounds like a good idea. Hope you can get this sorted out soon!

The other thing I've found with dogs that are pee pad trained is they often don't differentiate between pee pads and rugs/carpets.

If the vet rules out a UTI, you might have to go back to potty training 101 with her. It's not unusual for a dog to pee in a new place because they don't understand that they're not allowed to, especially if there are any leftover urine smells from previous dogs. And a dog's sense of smell is thousands of times stronger than ours so she might be able to smell something that you can't.
I agree about the piddle pads, they can make potty training more complicated because it makes it harder for the dog to understand that peeing out is good and peeing inside is bad.
And if you are rusty in the potty training department, Alice's post is a classic: http://www.pugauthority.com/t506-the-only-housetraining-article-you-ll-ever-need
