Freddy Jones has a problem.
He's acting similar to Lisa's description of Matilda. I didn't notice any problem until this afternoon. I had been focused on Toby because he's having some tummy issues, but that's not out of the norm for him. Then I put FJ up on my lap and he was very uncomfortable and couldn't get settled. He hopped to the floor and I noticed that he won't lay down. He just sits in a pug slump and closes his eyes. I carried him outside and set him down, he won't walk more than 5-6 steps then sits down. His back legs (especially the left one) are trembly. I asked him if he wanted a cookie and he perked up. He slowly followed me back to the patio, but wouldn't jump up (which is a small jump for him that he makes several times a day). I picked him up and carried him back inside. He ate his cookie, then ate the cookie that Toby rejected. It doesn't seem to be digestive, but I guess I'll find out for sure at supper time. While outside, he did NOT pee or poopy. We don't have an emergency clinic or anything like that out here. I'll have to wait until tomorrow morning to call a vet. I'm wondering if I could give him some of Toby's Rimadyl or if that would cause some other problem. I wish these darn pugs could talk and tell us what the problem is. Oh, his tail is curled up most of the time. When he walks it's a very loose curl and it flops down when he sits. Any advice?
ETA: I just realized I have the vet's cell phone. I called him and he said to give him the Metacam (not rimadyl, I don't know why I put rimadyl). And bring him in tomorrow morning if he's not any better. This vet is not my preferred vet for anything serious, but it's the one I have access to, so it's better than nothing. My hubby has his cell for cattle emergencies...I guess I can take advantage of that too.

Re: Freddy Jones has a problem.
After reading Lisa's post about the possible tick paralysis; I have gone over mine with a fine tooth comb-literally a flea comb. Have you checked for ticks, a cut, bump, etc? I hope that Freddy is feeling better soon! And yes, why can't they tell us what is wrong? It is so worrysome at times.

Poor FJ. I'll keep him (and you) in my thoughts. Hoping things improve for him.

Hugs to FJ - hope it's something the meds and a good night's sleep can put to rights.

Re: Freddy Jones has a problem.
He ate a good supper and peed and pooped. While we were outside, Homer tried to engage him in play. Freddy would start to play, but pull back immediately. He started to trot at one point and was holding up his right back leg. He will walk up the step, but won't jump. The Metacam is helping, but he's obviously still in pain. If he's still hurting tomorrow, I'll take him to the vet. Thanks for all the good thoughts.
The tick thing scared me, especially since we were at the lake last weekend. But I don't find anything on him.

Re: Freddy Jones has a problem.
Hope he's feeling better soon, Christy! I know how scary and frustrating it can be to not be able to figure it out. When Lucy was acting so odd a few weeks ago, I never was able to pinpoint the issue. It lasted several days then went away and she's been fine. It sure would make it a lot easier if they could talk!
Re: Freddy Jones has a problem.
I hope it is something minor and Mr. Jones is feeling better soon. I'm glad he's at least up and around.

I know this is a pretty mundane suggestion, but could he be constipated? A tsp of pumpkin could help with each meal.

Nope, he's pooping just fine...nice, solid amount.PUGSMUM wrote:I know this is a pretty mundane suggestion, but could he be constipated? A tsp of pumpkin could help with each meal.
He slept well last night. It's too early to see how he's doing, but I'll know more as we start getting ready for school.

Re: Freddy Jones has a problem.
This will sound silly, but who is Freddy's most favorite person in the world? Matilda went from 50% of normal to 75% just when Adam came home last night. She even willingly went to help wake him up this morning.

Re: Freddy Jones has a problem.
Not to sound egotistical, but I am most definitely his favorite person in the world. He loves Alex (ironically, went in with me to wake him up this morning), and he loves his Daddy when Daddy has food or takes him for a pick-up ride...BUT he loves me the most. He almost can't stand to NOT be touching me.akc0104 wrote:This will sound silly, but who is Freddy's most favorite person in the world? He's quite a bit better this morning. He jumped up onto the couch before I could pick him up and put him there. He's still not himself, but I'm going to hold off on the vet for a few hours. If I can't be right with him, I'll put him in his room where there's nothing to jump up onto and a soft bed to lay on. Just because he can jump, doesn't mean he should jump. I'll baby him around this morning and see where he's at this afternoon. Thanks for the continued good thoughts.

Just caught this one. I'm glad he is improving, saying a prayer, and fingers, toes, paws, and everything else crossed that he keeps improving and gets totally better. I do love Freddy.
