Pee problems. Dilute urine
Took Wellie to the vet yesterday as he had had a couple of accidents in the house and got me up in the middle of the night to tinkle. Had full urinalysis and blood work done. Waiting unti Monday to see if urine cultures show any infection . He is fed Petcurean grain free, get probiotic coconut oil and pumkin. Protein content is 26 percent. Any thoughts? Any advice?

Poor Wellie! I am not sure about percentages - maybe someone else will chime in. Has the vet started him on any meds until the culture results come in? Maybe, if he has an infection, he's been drinking lots of water and that might have diluted his pee quite a bit. Hoping the culture comes back positive for something easily treated. Negative results could mean more investigations. Hope all is well.

Re: Pee problems. Dilute urine
It could be a variety of things, but three things come to mind immediately if a urinary infection is ruled out:
Behavioural--some dogs develop obsessive drinking patterns.
Medical--diabetes and Cushings.
If a UTI is ruled out, then I'd ask about testing for diabetes and for cushings. Both can be quite manageable.
Hope it turns out to be nothing serious.

Well, yes and no. I actually like that they didn't slam him onto an antibiotic without knowing if it's going to be effective. But you hate to think he's sitting around with an infection brewing away in there.Old Mother Hubbard wrote:So the blood panel came back clear no kidney diabetes thyrod etc. Strange that they didnt start him on anything untul urine cultures come back Monday?

As Blanche mentioned, the first things that come to my mind if there is not an infection is diabetes, cushings disease or possible kidney disease. Have you noticed any increase in the amount of water that he is drinking?
