Penny is having an awful diarrhea
Penny has been getting the mini Zukes Z-Ridge bones as treats for, well, years now. Never a problem. Until yesterday. She has had diarrhea since yesterday morning with chunks of the undigested z-bone and all through the night, plus some heaving. Uncontrollable diarrhea. The carpet is ruined diarrhea. I had to wash my bedding twice last night diarrhea. I feel so awful for her, she has been miserable. We gave her some water with a bit of chicken broth in it to keep her hydrated, and it went right through her. So she has had nothing by mouth since about 8 pm last night. And boy, is she pissed at me. She wants her breakfast, and she wants it now! And that is the good news, she is still a feisty little diva.
We are going to the dogtor shortly, and she seems to have stopped (although she dropped another piece about a half hour ago). I would think it was something else, but I gave a friend of mine one from the same bag to give her pug, and Tucker had the runs and urps too. I'm thinking it is a bad bag, but she's not getting them any more. Of course, I can't get anyone by phone to tell them at work that I won't be in this morning, so I left messages everywhere and am hoping that this doesn't get me hoisted, but Penny comes first. Always. I'm running on about 3 hours of sleep, and am very punchy, so excuse my rambling.
So the moral is, be careful with the Zuke's Z-Bones.

Poor Penny!! The indignity! That is some bad dire rear!!
I have given those bones on occasion, but not often, as they make a mess.
I really, really love buying my guys treats, and giving them variety.....however, as more time passes, I am realizing that anything produced by the dog / pet food industry is suspect. I am down to only purchasing items from 3 or 4 different brands....Zukes was one of them!

I'm so sorry to hear Penny is not feeling well. I hope the vet can give you something to make her tummy feel better and she can keep something down.

Re: Penny is having an awful diarrhea
Are you sure it's the Zuke's? We've been dealing with the same thing with Yoda for the last few days & we don't give her those. She couldn't even keep water down for a couple of days, the poor thing. The vomiting stopped yesterday but she still had horrible diarrhea. The vet put her on Flagyl and she's getting ground turkey/rice & managing to keep that in now (knock wood!). I hope that Penny is feeling better soon too!
Re: Penny is having an awful diarrhea
Poor Penny! You can give her ice chips to help with thirst. Also (as you already know) the vet will probably recommend boiled chicken and rice. It probably isn't the Zukes unless she can't handle protein any more.
I hope it is a simple stomach bug that will pass soon.
Hugs to one of my favorite seniors....

Re: Penny is having an awful diarrhea
I agree that it may not be the Zukes. I think something is going around because Mattie was sick with horrible diarrhea and vomiting last week. She's been on a course of Flagyl too and is better this week. I hope Miss Penny is feeling better soon too.

Re: Penny is having an awful diarrhea
I pray that Penny quickly gets over that awful diarrhea. It is so exhausting when one has to keep cleaning and cleaning and washing and washing when a pet has diarrhea. I hope you can both rest well and get a good nights sleep tonight.

Email Zukes and let them know. They're a very good company and really like feedback. If you have any of the bones left they might get you to send them back for testing. They'll probably send you a package with a bunch of dog treats too, they like to do that.
I don't like the mini bones despite the packaging saying they're the best for 5-20lb dogs i'd not give one to any dog over 3lbs. Even the small size is very very small/thin. They're just too small for my kids. My guys get the medium sizes (and sometimes large if that's all i have in stock) because they're bigger and there is no chance of swallowing them whole or only chewing them a couple times and down the hatch. They're harder than the minis too so they have to really work at them.

Are you talking about my pugs!!?? They are so like that! And, I buy the medium for that exact reason.

That's the biggest problem in my Pug clients... *Chomp Chomp GULP!* and their owners going "Shit shit shit! What the hell!"

Poor Penny! And poor you. I hope that you've been to the vet and are back home with some meds to firm things up. It sounds like it's been a runny nightmare. Hugs to you both.
