Mooch & Sweetie - Senior Rescues
Vickie got a call from the pound a few days ago. Two senior pugs were turned in because the people (who supposedly had had these pugs all their lives) were moving to housing where they couldn't keep them.
Mooch is 14, Sweetie is 15.
Mooch, the male, is skinny, hunch-backed and has the worst set of teeth that Vickie has ever seen. Sweetie is in better shape, but also has horrible teeth. Both are perky and lively. They had a vet-check yesterday. Bloodwork was good, and Sweetie will get her teeth cleaned Friday. Mooch has to be on meds for awhile first.
These pics are not all that great. We took them at a distance thru a window that separates the dogs from the front office at Vickie's doggy daycare last night while the elders were sleeping. They went home with Vickie.
Mooch:
Sweetie: (shades of my Thelma)
She noticed us and came over to the window. I am in love- with both!
I would sleep in my car rather than dump two dogs I've had for 14-15 years at the pound. Thanks Dawg Vickie has a good relationship with them. They always call her about pugs coming in.

I saw Mooch on Renee's page, I didn't know there was another one too. Grr! It makes me so sad. I'm glad they are out of the pound.
Re: Mooch & Sweetie - Senior Rescues
Poor old muffins. I'll never understand. I guess people get in spots where they have no choice, but it's hard to imagine.
Re: Mooch & Sweetie - Senior Rescues
There is NOTHING that could happen in my life that would make me dump my Pugs of that age at a pound NOTHING. Yes, circumstances change in your life and things get tough, BUT AT A POUND? AT THAT AGE?? Geezus. I'm so glad they're safe now. Bless their hearts. I hope there's someone out there who wants to give some darling old guys a warm bed, good food and a ton of love for a couple of years.....

I forgot to mention Sweetie is not spayed! I forgot to ask if Mooch was neutered. Reneé would know...
Re: Mooch & Sweetie - Senior Rescues
I met these two the night they came in.
Mooch is a dear old man. Completely deaf. His teeth are the worst I have ever seen, and it would be a blessing if they would just fall out. He is neutered though. He is likely not strong enough to withstand a dental, so for now he is on pain management.
Sweetie is a spry little thing, healthy and happy. She has a great voice. She did some singing while i was sitting with her, and it is the cutest little howl. Sweetie gets her dental on Friday. She'll be much happier and smell 100 times better!
I brought Mooch home to foster, which is why some of you have seen him on my facebook. He was not happy, and appeared to be searching for his sister. At the same time, another pug was surrendered with severe allergies. So, Vickie and I did a trade. I took Mooch back to Vickie, so she could keep him with his sister, and I took home the allergy guy, named Winston. I will post pictures of him soon.

Poor darlings. I'm glad they're able to be together again. The whole situation is probably a lot less scary with a lifelong friend.

Yes, exactly. We were hesitant to split them up in the first place, but thought we would give it a try. Mooch really did miss his sister and looked very unhappy. Even if the allergy pug had not come into rescue at the same time, I think Mooch would have gone back to Vickie to be with Sweetie.
Re: Mooch & Sweetie - Senior Rescues
What lovely old pugs.........it is a wonder they have lived so long with such horrible teeth. Agree, I would never, ever leave my two old pugs at a pound. The very thought of leaving them just breaks my heart. I am happy the brother and sister are now together and being loved and cared for.

Re: Mooch & Sweetie - Senior Rescues
Once again I am at a loss - the pound! Do people not understand what pounds are like? Even if (Dawg forbid) you are up against it and have to give the dogs up (which I would fight with every fibre in my being), why the pound? I just don't get it. Well they are safe and loved now. Thanks for looking after them. They're darling.

Re: Mooch & Sweetie - Senior Rescues
Who drops of dogs (or any animal) that they have had for all those years at the pound? Obviously people that are "done" with their animals and can't get them put to sleep any other way. Because bringing them to the pound at that age is an almost certain death sentence! Thank dog for Vickie.
They are so gorgeous. Sweetie is definitely got a little Thelma goin on! Both sweet. I love that they are snuggled together.

UPDATE:
We found out Mooch had several (7, I believe) inoperable blown discs in his back. Inoperable due to his poor health and advanced age.
It was decided to send him to the Bridge today. I am crying my eyes out.
R.I.P. Mooch, you were loved all week.

Oh MJ, I am so sorry. I think maybe nothing makes me sadder than to have a pug make their way to rescue and we can't help them. It's so unfair. I am very glad he did get a good week getting loved and spending time with his sister.
RIP, Mooch.

Re: Mooch & Sweetie - Senior Rescues
Dear Mooch is no longer in ANY pain because those in rescue loved you enough to let you go. Rest in peace.
