I think in general that Nature's Variety is a good high quality food.

Thanks Renee, I does rate the current one I'm feeding from them with 5 stars, this one is brand new. I think it looks good but I'm not a food expert.

Re: What do you think of this food?
Looks okay to me. I had issues with my crew with both tapioca and turkey.
I never like when they list "natural flavour" as an ingredient. Natural flavour of what?
I've used their kibble a couple of times, but never this one. I still like Taste of the Wild best so far.

Blanche, which one are you using? The person at the pet store recommemend that one.

Re: What do you think of this food?
ooooh! new food for the new dog??
I am "researching" diamond naturals myself... but the local store (listed as a distributor), doesn't sell it! Not that I won't drive for good food (human or dog!)!! But I have been bound to the Agway every other month for a long time now for my present kibble, and since what I hear here is "change" can be good. . .
sorry - no help on your question... just a "free association" on the topic (y' know me: shrinklet! (daughter of 2 (TWO) shrinks!) HA HA - ugh!).

Taste of the Wild is still my go to as well... but, it gave my Kingston some pancreatitis... so, I needed to go with an LID diet, and I think I did the Nature's Variety. Just not the turkey formula. I went with lamb.
Re: What do you think of this food?
Donna--I think most of their formulas are good ones. I generally use the Pacific Stream (I think that's the name). I've not had to deal with pancreatitis so far (probably just jinxed myself).

Donna, I'm a big fan of Taste of the Wild, too. I rotate between the Pacific Stream formula and High Prairie, Wetlands, and just tried Sierra Mountain for the first time. Marlee does really well on this food, both canned and dry. The price is good, too.

Penny is on Taste of the Wild, too. We go between the salmon and the bison. Oddly, Nature's Variety is the one brand that she would not touch. Spit it out. No way. Licked the pumpkin and yogurt off it. I'm just glad that it was only a sample, and not a full bag.

When she's feeling really diva-ish, she will eat the cheese from around her pills and spit them out! Like I say, she rules me with an iron paw!

Re: What do you think of this food?
I thought that if the first ingredient was anything but 'real meat' then it's not a quality food? That's what I've been basing my food decisions on.

If it's a named meat meal, such as turkey meal, it's fine. It's actually recommended to look for food that has named meat meals in it to back up the fresh meats because the meal already has all the water removed vs. fresh meats which don't because the list is made BEFORE the food has been cooked. When you remove the water from a fresh meat in an ingredient list, it drops 5-7 spots down the list when cooked.

Thanks! I didn't know that.
