Re: Tilly is out of surgery
Yikes! That is one resilient peach pit! Huge hugs to you and gentle hugs to Miss Tilly. Here's hoping she's on her feet and back in the pink soon.

I'm so glad they found out what was going on. I had a feeling it was that pit still in her. She'll be on the mend in no time now.

Re: Tilly is out of surgery
Tilly is crying. Why? She is starving! She seems to be doing really well. It was a long night though. Her meds wore off about 1:30, so I had to give her more. Then I had to rub her chest for a couple hours so she wouldn't cry. I gave her a light meal this morning and it was gone in an instant.

Re: Tilly is out of surgery
Your such a great mom to Tilly! I'm just now seeing all these threads. I can't believe the peach pit was in there for that long!!!!! I think I'd toss that dang thing, burn it, something! And that picture, goodness, those pits sure do hold up don't they?!?! Glad to hear she ate this morning. Hope she gets to feeling better really soon, although, she sounds happy and feeling better already this morning. Hugs to you and to Tilly!

Awww, sounds like a rough night for both of you. You're taking such great care of her! Soon, she will be feeling better and there will be an end to "The Peach Pit Odyssey".

Re: Tilly is out of surgery
Sally, I'm glad to see that Tilly ate this morning. That's wonderful news. Yeah, I was amazed by how much pain Kayla was in after her intestinal surgery - the first and only time she's ever cried in pain after a surgery - I remember what a long night it was. The good news is that after that first full day at home, the pain meds managed her pain well and she recovered rather quickly. I hope to hear the same about Tilly.
Re: Tilly is out of surgery
I remember when we went the the 'peach pit' watch all those months ago, and never saw it! Thank gawd she is OK now! You're suspicions were right.
I hope she's on the mend now!

Re: Tilly is out of surgery
She had her first post op poop last night. Looked like a glob of black tar. Ewwwww
Now I am anxiously awaiting a regular poop. Exciting, huh? She continues to be in the starving mode and I am cooking her a fresh batch of rice right now. Do you think oatmeal would be too heavy for her?

I am so glad she is starting to do better. Hunger is a good sign!
As far as the oatmeal, I give it to Carter and it seems to help him stay "regular" but I have no idea how dogs digest it versus humans.

Ah, yes, poop patrol. What did the vet say to feed her? Could you boil up some chicken to go with her rice? I've never given oatmeal, but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt her.

Re: Tilly is out of surgery
I've been giving her rice and baby food (meat). It just doesn't seem to stick with her. When I gave her a little oatmeal yesterday, she seemed more satisfied.

Re: Tilly is out of surgery
What about boiled chicken (no skin)--I thought that was always supposed to be good for sensitive times. If you poach it and shred it fine? I'd ask the vet about the oatmeal (again, I can't see why it would be bad for her--in fact, it probably has more nutrition than rice)--let us know what s/he says if you ask!!

Add a bit of canned pumpkin. It does wonders.

Glad to hear it! What's she eating? (How long until she can eat regular stuff?)

I am going to start mixing a little kibble into her bland food tomorrow. Vet said 3-5 days and tomorrow is the 4th day. I thought I would grind it up so it would be easier to digest. I'm feeding her ground chicken with white rice or oatmeal mostly now. Some cottage cheese and yogurt too.

Re: Tilly is out of surgery
Love the picture of her! Glad to hear things are progressing! It's not the same thing at all, but when Wally recently had to have soft food b/c of palate surgery, I took several meals-worth of his kibble, put it in a micro-safe container, covered it in water and microwaved it for 2 min. or so, then straight into the 'frig. After it cooled it was perfect in terms of softness.
